Did Liberalism Lose Its Luster?

Published by at 8:10 am under All General Discussions

This is a fascinating look at the drop off in an annual far left conference:

For the past few years, liberal activists have gathered in Washington each spring for the Take Back America conference, where speaker after speaker — Obama sometimes among them — would give rollicking denunciations of the Bush administration before packed rooms of partisans.

Hickey estimates attendance dropped from 2,500 last year to 1,500 this year, and even that may overstate things. At yesterday morning’s four concurrent “issue briefings,” 585 chairs were set out. Only 213 of them were occupied, including just 15 for the session on global warming. “Radio row” was quiet, the “TV Terrace” was empty, and two people sat typing on “Blogger Boulevard.”

“It’s been much less busy this year,” said a guy in the nearly empty exhibit hall who was handing out stickers from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force saying “Power is Sexy.” Nobody was shopping at the book kiosk in the middle of the room, where the titles leaned toward the battles of the George W. Bush years: “The Constitution in Crisis . . . a Blueprint for Impeachment.” “The Uprising.” “Plunder and Blunder.” “The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Rule.”

Yep, it seems everyone is heading away from the fringes as fast as possible, left and right.

I don’t think there fewer left wing nuts, I think Bush is in Texas, so the draw is not there.

I agree kathie. I doubt the missing are now mild mannered centrists. They do not have Bush to beat any more so they are staying home.

Not too long ago there was a conservative convention in DC (I’m not talking about CPAC). Anyway, it was the largest ever and the number of young people attending was remarkably huge compared to past years.

I tend to agree with Kathie. I think these events are bigger when you are in the minority Congressional power structure.

However, have you seen the news coming out of Europe?

Agree with kathie. Why should they bother when they have all the power plus a free 24/7 infomercial running called the MSM. Plus they have to save the Bushbash for Obama’s exclusive use.

    Wrong tree AJ.

Liberals have not changed and never will. The circumstances have. Liberals dont have Bush to bash, they have complete and utter control of the nation and the economy is in the tank. They just dont have the disposeable income to piss away on their hate fetish.
