Stop Spending, Cut Taxes! America Speaks

Published by at 5:37 pm under All General Discussions

Americans came out with a surprise message to the Democrats and President Obama in a recent CBS News poll – a message surprising not being reported on by the news media. The stunning message concerns what is the better path out of recession: Federal Spending or Tax Cuts. The response was strongly towards tax cuts and away from Federal Spending (two samples made):

  • Support Spending – 16/22%
  • Support Tax Cuts – 62/59%

(note: results here as well) That is one stunning message, since the ‘stimulus’ package is probably geared to do just the opposite in the coming 12 months. No wonder the liberal news media is mum.

Is Sen Diane Feinstein (D-CA) getting wobbly on the stimulus bill?

    ——–

Via FOX News Special Report with Bret Baier.

    Senator Feinstein told her colleagues:

“So I reserve the right at the end of the day to vote against the package that I don’t think puts those jobs out there. That’s my point.”

Collins: I might vote against the final stimulus bill if it’s too porky

    excerpt:

The Freepers are buzzing about this so I figured you’d want to see the clip. Note: She doesn’t mean she might vote against the final Senate bill. That’s a done deal. She’s talking about the real final bill, the one that’ll come back from conference committee after the House and Senate huddle next week. If they start dumping money back into it that was cut from this one — which is possible — then, in theory, she’ll pull the plug.

The Dems only like taxes when they push them up. Personally I like it when all Americans are weighted the same, as if we are all in this together as one nation.

I read that the President signed an executive order that stated only union members can be considered for the jobs coming from the “Save America”, $900 billion bill. Is that legal?

  4. crosspatch says:

AJ, I know you read Gateway Pundit and there is a story over there where Obama has signed an executive order where only union workers are allowed to bid on government projects. Union employees represent only about 15 percent of American workers. Obama has just locked out roughly 85% of Americans from any “economic stimulus”. This is a stimulus designed only to stimulate certain people, not the country as a whole.

Obama is going to destroy this country and blackmail millions of Americans into joining unions by depriving non-union Americans of a job.

My anger is mainly at those Republicans that decided not to cast a vote this past election to “teach America a lesson”. The damage may be irreversible. They have cut OUR noses off to spite their faces. What idiots!

  5. crosspatch says:

Sorry, Kathie, I didn’t see your comment.

I don’t believe it is legal. If it is, this is going to turn a LOT of workers against Obama and it is going to give the Mob a windfall of cash because of their close ties with organized labor.

Cross……..Maybe we would see the march of “Joe the Plumbers”, would that ever be fun, all of Palin’s followers descending on Washington. I might buy a plane ticket to watch.

    Crosspatch and Kathie:

I read about this today as well. I think it is much worse than we can imagine. All of these supposed “shovel ready” projects…does anyone think that they will (1) come in under budget (2) be immune from corruption at all levels (3) not be subjected to lawsuits after the fact due to shoddy workmanship, poor planning, etc? I think we are about to experience the “big dig” on a national scale…

  8. kathie says:

I wrote this on AJ other post. Obama idea of building the economy from the bottom up.

Next the President will say, only the currently unemployed, for more then 2 years, or never employed, will get the construction jobs. Our new workers are going to have to pull their pants up, cut out the gang signs and turn their caps around.

  9. Boghie says:

Anyone who has ever read my comments would probably find this odd.

I am tiring of the pure ‘Tax Cut’ mantra of the right wing…
I am extremely tired of the nanny state mantra of the left wing…

What we need to do is to keep the evil BusHitler Tax Regime in place and cut spending. This economic ‘restructuring’ started when the variance of ignorant campaign promises were brought into play. If the Gubmint can cut spending – or at least have a zero expenditure growth – this year than confidence will grow. That will create backing for other necessary (hopefully short term) requirements on our citizenry.

So, yes, if Congress can reign in spending I could accept a necessary tax increase (temperary).

I, currently, do NOT trust Congress. Thus, I do NOT accept their bleatings for my assets. Therefore, a little trust time would be of help. This Porkalus Bill is not the place to start…

  10. kathie says:

This is what Obama’s spending is really about, make no mistake about it. And for his pleasure our Country will pay for generations, in ways unimagined by our leaders today. This is what Obama said in his address to the Nation on Saturday.

Let’s be clear: We can’t expect relief from the tired old theories that, in eight short years, doubled the national debt, threw our economy into a tailspin, and led us into this mess in the first place. We can’t rely on a losing formula that offers only tax cuts as the answer to all our problems while ignoring our fundamental economic challenges – the crushing cost of health care or the inadequate state of so many schools; our addiction to foreign oil or our crumbling roads, bridges, and levees.

The $900 billion is to fix health care, schools, global warming and roads etc. Nothing more. Is anybody listening, for God sake!

  11. crosspatch says:

I just spoke to a friend of mine who is a municipal engineer with a California city. She says her best contractors are non-union and if there is such a requirement, it is going to force them into using out of area contractors and will do nothing to “stimulate” the economy of her local area unless it blackmails the local contractors into joining the union just so they can eat.

    This is evil.

  12. Always On Watch says:

The Dems, just like all politicians, fear the power of the ballot box. They are looking to keep their seats in 2010, and voting for the stimulus bill could threaten those seats.

  13. Terrye says:

I think this will hurt the Democrats in the long run. At least I hope it will. Most people do not want to be in a union. If they wanted to be in a union, they would be.

I agree with Boghie. Tax cuts and an across the board spending cut of 5% would make a lot more sense.

  14. bill says:

Socialist change, just not what you expected.

All the 2008 election proved is what communist had know throughout the 20th century, it’s real easy to make idiot voters out of ignorant people by promising them lots of free stuff. 125 million people died because of that false promise during the 20th century.

    America is not Kenya.

  15. ivehadit says:

Tired old policies? I’ll tell you what are the tired old policies:

Millions upon millions thrown into the education system for FORTY YEARS and our children were LESS EDUCATED….and the schools are a sham. Good on ya, NEA UNION. NOT!

Millions upon millions thrown into the welfare system that has kept people TRAPPED IN POVERTY AND IN SLUMS. Ask the catholic nuns in New Orleans what they had to do to help people GET OUT OF POVERTY by getting out of the housing projects there.

Millions upon millions thrown into the housing projects….living hell holes, they are. But hey, shoving all those people into those housing projects gets them off the liberals minds. Sick.

Millions upon millions thrown at aid to dependent children? We all know where most of that money ends up…in the veins of many. What has happened to the family in America due to democrat policies? Destroyed. Fathers? Diminished and forgotten…Many just not around for their children in the black communities.

The moral fabric of America is in tatters thanks to liberal democrat policies.

And food stamps? And the waste in government? 25 cents on the dollar.

What has worked as proven fact when we faced recessions ?
GIVING THE PEOPLE THEIR MONEY BACK…STOPPING THE GOVERNMENT FROM TAKING THE MONEY AND SPENDING IT ON BUREAUCRACY THAT PRODUCES NOTHING.

Kennedy, Reagan and Bush all did the SAME THING. And it worked.

George W. Bush had the FINANCIAL CENTER of the WORLD attacked on his watch which led to the airlines being close to financial destruction, Wall Street was physically shut down, the largest city in the United States was paralyzed, the entire country was frozen in fear, and the ENTIRE WORLD was at the tipping point for a HUGE depression in the days after the attack.

And what did George W. Bush do? He gave us a BOOMING ECONOMY with 55 QUARTERS OF GROWTH and did all this while waging a WORLD WIDE WAR ON TERROR with enemies who did not wear uniforms or come from a sovereign state, that used 21st century technology and financial services like never before. And our military had to be completely retooled due to the gutting it received from the clinton administration.

So what’s with these whiney babies in the government now? Total ineptness, imho. They can’t BEGIN to walk in the shoes of George W. Bush.

But alas, as Monica Crowley has said, this gang in DC now only wanted to win…they had no intentions of really governing America. It’s all about them having some power, pretending to wish us well, imho.
