Obama Campaign Hurting For Money Or Out For All The Money They Can Make?

Published by at 2:19 pm under 2008 Elections,All General Discussions

Obama’s campaign is either being stingy with their money or they are not making enough. There have been two issues raised recently, one right here in VA. A couple of weeks ago Obama-Biden held a rally in the City of Newport News. And due to the fact that the rally was held in an open park extra security was needed. But, the Obama campaign is refusing to pay for the cost of those officers:

However, some in Newport News don’t want the appreciation, they want a check for the overtime costs for the extra security.

“All campaigns whether it’s our campaign or Senator McCain’s campaign, they don’t pay for the security at a particular event. What we will pay for is any form of the up front costs, whether it’s renting out a space or anything that the city or organization might identify,” says Griffis.

Two weeks ago, Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin held a rally at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and paid their $20,000 tab up front, but Griffis and Lee say the costs of that event can’t be compared to Obama’s park rally.

I would say that the Obama campaign is being stingy with their money. Newport News is not a super wealthy place. Believe me, I went to school there for 4 years. And both the police department and the sheriffs department have been trying to get higher pay for the officers. But even Obama supporters believe that Obama should pay

So how do Newport News taxpayers feel? Most of them, even Obama supporters, tell WAVY.com they would like him to pay the bill.

“I think they have enough revenue coming in, they should be able to handle $20,000,” said one Obama supporter.

Another said, “You know some people don’t support him and they should not have to foot the bill.”

What a way to get supporters and voters. The other issue raised about money is the fact that the Obama campaign is going to be charging the media to be present for election night

Obama’s campaign, awash in money after raising a record-shattering $150 million last month, is asking news organizations to pay anywhere from $410 to $1,870 depending on where they want to be and if they want telephone or Internet service in Grant Park.

While it is customary for news organizations to pay their way when covering a presidential campaign, including transportation, hotels and Internet services, some have questioned the Obama campaign’s plan….
For $1,870, a news organization can buy space on a main riser that will be covered, plus phone and Internet service, while $410 will get them space on a separate riser for photographers without out phone or Internet access, but with electrical power. A seat in a heated press filing center will cost $935 and include power, cable TV, Internet and food.

There is one press credential reporters can get for free. It will provide access to a standing-room-only outdoor press area with no services that “may have obstructed views.”

I thought Obama was making record money from fundraising. Why is he trying to still pull in massive amounts of money on the day his campaign ends? And what a way to piss off your biggest fans the MSM. Good job Obomba.

I think you guys need to discuss this – the best news I have seen in weeks.

Poll: Voters Against Obama ‘Wealth Redistribution’ Plan
POLITICS, MCCAIN, OBAMA, BIDEN, PALIN, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, ELECTION
    CNBC.com | 23 Oct 2008 | 12:06 PM ET
Washington, D.C. – Election Day is only two weeks away, and as John McCain and Barack Obama make their final pitches to “close the deal” with voters, a stunning new ATI-News/Zogby poll shows a clear majority of undecided voters disagree with Obama’s plan for wealth redistribution in America.

“The major issue on voters’ minds right now is the economy, and the major voting bloc on candidates’ minds right now is the undecided voter,” said ATI-News president Brad O’Leary. “Our poll results show that undecided voters overwhelmingly reject Obama’s economic plan to redistribute wealth.”

The poll surveyed 1,214 likely voters nationwide and was conducted October 17-20. It has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.

ATI-News/Zogby asked likely voters: “John McCain and other critics say Barack Obama is heavily influenced by people and organizations which seek social justice through redistribution of wealth in America. Do you agree or disagree with efforts to bring social justice by the redistribution of wealth?”

By a more than two-to-one margin, undecided voters disagree with such efforts to redistribute wealth. In total, 57 percent of undecided voters said they disagreed, while only 24 percent said they agreed (19 percent are not sure).

A majority (52 percent) of self-identified Independent voters also disagree with efforts to bring social justice through wealth redistribution. Only 39 percent of Independents agree (10 percent are not sure).

“In his candid conversation with ‘Joe the plumber,’ Obama made clear that his main economic goal is to redistribute wealth, not strengthen and grow our economy,” said O’Leary. “This is pure socialism, albeit thinly veiled, and it does not resonate with hard-working Americans who would rather keep their money than have Obama redistribute it to his favorite constituencies.”

O’Leary also noted that Obama’s tax welfare plan, coupled with his goal of raising barriers to free trade, “makes for a toxic mix that could drive America’s economy into a prolonged depression.”

“Obama isn’t the second coming of JFK,” said O’Leary, “He’s the reincarnation of Herbert Hoover.”

GO TO “GATEWAY PUNDIT” AND WATCH NEW VIDEO “JOE THE PLUMBER” IT IS REALLY GREAT. I HOPE IT IS EVERYWHERE.

  3. norm says:

hey…fringy…let’s talk about dubya sandwiching a meaningless official appearance in between multiple fundraising events so the american public pays for him and his entourage to fly in on air force one in order to raise money for the rnc.

That’s a great ad!! The guy “Tito the construction worker” is the guy who came with his US passport to the Woodbridge Rally to fight with the MSM about their treatment of Joe the Plumber.

    Here’s more about Tito

  6. norm says:

if you are concerned with the treatment of sam the unlicensed plumber you should tell john mccain to stop talking about him. he’s the one who has brought this all down on sam. it’s mccain who is accountable.

  7. DJStrata says:

    Norm:

Bush is not part of this election. Why can’t Obama supporters ever just answer a question. Why must there always be a change of subject to Bush? Obama is not paying and McCain did. Thats only comparison that needs to be made.

  8. Stix says:

It is nice to know that theLeft is still running against Bush who is not in this election. And if youthink McCain is the same as Bush, I got a bridge to sell you.

Obama needs all the money he has got to blow on commercials in states he will loose. He is wasting his money on Red States, that will neve vote him in office.

  9. norm says:

dj…what a suprise…you are misconstrueing what the article said. it said mccain paid the upfront costs, as obama also does. they are asking for more from obama because his fundraising efforts are vastly superior to mccains. if obama should pay what mccain doesn’t, simply because he has the money…well according to you fringies that’s socialism and you claim to be dead against it. hypocrits.

  10. Terrye says:

    norm:

You are pathetic. The man who goes by his middle name Joe, {just like my own father did} was in his front yard with his son when the Messiah accosted him. It is Obama who created the situation. All he had to do was leave Joe the plumber alone.

And I love the way you do that unlicensed thing. Like it is a crime or something. You make me sick.

  11. Terrye says:

I know this is not as horrid as fixing someone’s sink without a license, but if you look at hot air you will see a post up about allegations against Obama for fraud. It seems his campaign has disabled the security features for their online donations so that people can make illegal donations. The RNC has filed a complaint.

Needless to say, the Democrats will make excuses. After all rules and laws are made for other people.

    I messed up those links:

    Hot Air and Power Line

  13. norm says:

    terrye…
first…clearly you either haven’t watched the entire tape, or you have a problem grasping reality. sam asked obama a question. in order to do it he had to wade thru a crowd. to say that obama acosted him is ridiculous. mccain however has said his name hundreds of times since then, and made sam a central issue in his campaign. he had to once the ayers smear didn’t work. he has nothing else.
second…it is unlikely that someone without a license is going to buy a plumbing business. it’s worthless without a license. i mention it to point up the myth of sam the unlicensed plumber. and by the way he would get a tax cut under obama and not under mccain.

  14. Mark says:

Thanks, Norm, for getting us off topic. So, now, back to reality: Could Obama’s team be lying about the amount of money they’re raising? I doubt you could prosecute someone for overstating their donations. Obama’s team seems to feel the appearance of things is much more important than reality, so perhaps they felt the need to puff up the numbers to make Obama look good, but in reality he needs every dime he can glom onto, so he’s stiffing whomever he can and charging the adoring media to get that extra nickle?

  15. Redteam says:

norm, the President uses air force 1 for his travel and the government pays for it. It was that way for Bubba and all previous presidents and will be that way for the next president, either the marxist or McCain. that’s the way it should be.

  16. BarbaraS says:

The rules are that a plumber has to be apprencticed for 5 years before he can be licensed. He works for a licensed plumber during that time. Joe the Plumber is a few months short of that five years. The way the left goes on and on about this issue is ridiculous. These are the rules and all the angst on the left will not change them.

  17. BarbaraS says:

As for the topic we are supposed to be discussing maybe he doesn’t really have the 200 million that he won’t disclose the donors to the FEC which, BTW, I didn’t think was possible but Obama seems to get away with breaking all the rules. . Maybe these millions and millions in donations is a ploy to make him seem invincible. Maybe he is stiffing everyone he can because he doesn’t have the money. Maybe he is lying about this just like he has lied about everything else. Would anybody be surprised? After all, this is a man of mystery who cuts through all rules, doesn’t really need ads since the media advertises for him 24/7 for free, and members of the govenment seem to be on his side in all cases even to the point of forming “truth squads” to keep citizens from saying anything derogatory about him.
