Pakistan PM Refutes Blackmail By Terrorists In Tribal Areas

Published by at 3:09 pm under All General Discussions,Pakistan

I posted yesterday on news that the Taliban/Tribes in Pakistan were demanding the right to ‘live in peace’ in the tribal areas of Pakistan as long as they could maintain their war on America and the West. Peace would be only with the Pak government. It was a ridiculous requirement which included a lot of praise for Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, which hinted at the idea the Taliban should be allowed to retain their fanatic guests:

Militants of Bajaur Agency on Friday offered general amnesty to all their opponents, except alleged US spies and those involved in adultery, and announced the formation of various committees for settling people’s conflicts.

In addition, militant commander Maulana Faqir Mohammad and his fellow fighters said they wished to offer shelter to Osama bin Laden and Mulla Mohammad Omar, should they ask for it.

He told the Jirga members that since all the infidels had united to capture the resources of the Muslim world, therefore, it was imperative for the Muslims to get united and support the “Mujahideen” in their war against the US-led foreign occupation forces in Afghanistan.

My take was pretty obvious on this demand:

Sorry, but Pakistan suing for peace with these animals so they can attack us in Afghanistan or anywhere else in the world is not going to fly. That is how we ended up with 9-11 in the first place, we let this kind of ‘look the other way’ arrangement give AQ the base of operations to launch 9-11 and numerous other deadly attacks.

I am glad to report that Pakistan’s Prime Minister was equally revolted with these demands:

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani has said he will not allow the terrorists to “blackmail” his government and will not hold negotiations with militants along the Afghan border, foreign or Pakistani, until preconditions set by his regime are met.

“We will not be blackmailed by them. We won’t listen to their demands that are totally unrealistic. If they want us to hand over (jailed) terrorists as a (precondition) for talks, that will not happen,” he told Newsweek.

His comments came in the backdrop of demands by militants to free 12 prisoners, including suspects in former premier Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, for release of Pakistani envoy to Afghanistan, Tariq Azizuddin.

The Pakistan Prime Minister said his priority would be to establish law and order in the volatile country as militancy is seriously affecting the economy of the country.

“Political stability leads to economic stability. My priority would be to control the law-and-order situation in the country, so we have to discourage this extremism and terrorism. That’s what is affecting our economy,” he said.

While not addressing the idiocy of providing a haven for terrorist to launch jihad, the response is a very positive sign that Pakistan is not going to knuckle under to the thugs in the tribal areas. In addition there are statements that the Pakistani Army is not leaving the tribal areas any time soon:

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has dispelled the impression that troops are being withdrawn from tribal areas adding army will remain there till a final decision is taken on this count.

This impression is wrong that troops are being withdrawn from tribal areas. We want peace in Malakand and other tribal areas. It is our desire that people should depart from gun culture and respect the law of land , he said this during joint press briefing along with European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana here Tuesday.

Sadly, the idiocy of attempting to appease the Islamo Fascists in Pakistan is starting to be seen as a recently released Pakistani Taliban leader promised to go right back violence and terror now that he is free:

A relative of a Pakistani Taliban leader just released from custody, has vowed to continue armed struggle for Islamic law in the country’s northwest, despite the signing of a peace accord.

Maulana Fazlullah, son-in-law of Sufi Muhammad, said on Tuesday that his group will not lay down their arms until the government enforces the Sharia.
The Pakistani government released Muhammad on Monday after a deal reached with the government of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
The deal, in which the group renounced violence in return for being allowed to peacefully campaign for Islamic law, appears to be part of the new government’s efforts to engage in dialogue with armed groups fighting against the state.

But Muslim Khan, a spokesman for Fazlullah, said that fighters allied with Fazlullah will not cease battle.

You would have thought the historic lesson learned by Neville Chamberlain in his dealings with the Nazi Fascists would not have been forgotten – but apparently it has. This is why talking to radical thugs is a waste of time.

Strata, whether Shariah Law is enforced in tribal lands in Pakistan should be of little concern to you, whether or not the Muslims who want it enforced use violence or not.

AJ, are you really going to let this guy hijack your site? His whole point is to make every string of comments more about him than about anything you write, which I think for most everyone makes them a big waste of time.

AJ, is there a reason you’re letting an anti-semitic pinhead post anti-semitic links on your website?

Violence still on increase, several Marines killed,/Ramadi, bragged about on this site within past week as example of turnaround, scene of insurgency hit.

Al-Maliki told delegates at the conference’s opening Tuesday that Iraq “has entered a new phase” and has “prevailed over factional disputes.”

This man must be under US pressure to lie. Or is he imitating Baghdad Bob? He was begging today, here, other Sunni Arab nations to come and help Iraq. So was Condi, even after they all told her and Bush not to invade Iraq in the first place.

Sure thing. The Sunni Arabs going to help a Shia sectarian who hasn’t brought but a miniscule number of Sunnis into the government and military and who is being pounded in the Green Zone and who has allowed the US military to attack his own in Sadr City, meaning his long-term stability among even his own is in doubt.

Meanwhile, aides to both al Sadr and Sistani have been assassinated
since Sunday past. Oh, yes, there are no factional disputes left in Iraq.
And Ramadi is safe, has been for ages, just like Pat Dollard said.

Or ,Preatchie, you are in denial because reality is not working out as you hoped. I mean why else make up such childish lies about being forced to lie? I mean – your the one lying, and to yourself!

    What a moroon.

Preachie also reads and links to all of the same blogs, sites, etc. I guess that’s just a random coincidence…not.

“Pontificating pissant”…That’s good! Like that one…like it a lot!

  20. 75 says:

But Preachy,…you just told us the other day Sunnis and Shias were all chummy and allied in forcing the occupiers out of Iraq. Just how much BS have you swept under your carpet anyway? Must be quite the mound of camel dung under your flying carpets.
