Republican 2008 Straw Poll

Published by at 10:38 am under All General Discussions

Patrick Ruffini is conducting a on-line straw poll for 2008 candidates (note to Patrick, next time include Condi Rice). I am happy to see my vote for Sen Allen of VA is the leading voter getter. BTW, the results are tallied by referring blog. Hat tip to Polipundit for the referal – you got my vote for Allen!

One Response to “Republican 2008 Straw Poll”

  1. I hear lots of good about Sen. Allen, but I haven’t had any “screen time” to observe him personally – just cameos during brief news shots where he’s in the background behind other senators.

I believe John McCain is a loose cannon. I don’t trust him, particularly because he seems always to be the monkey wrench in the works.

I agree, Condi should have been included in the “straw poll” – I voted for her in another, unrelated poll.

Don’t go too hard on Tom Tancredo. I’ve observed him in Colorado for a long while. He’s a tough family values guy – very articulate on those issues, and also very civil. Tom didn’t coin the idea “obliterate Mecca, Medina, and the Dome of the Rock” It’s been floating around there for some time. In fact, once the perpetrators of 9/11 were identified, the exact same thing occurred to me. Leaving aside for the moment all the horrifying ramifications of such a counter-attack, the engine that fuels radical Islamic motivations is presumably the existence of the deity described in the Koran. Rummaging around as we presently are, for a means of making the point, “Straighten up and fly right”, destroying that deity’s cherished properties is one of the hastily scrawled slips in a hat full of possibilities. Alternatively, I would favor a strenuous campaign of impressing upon law-abiding Muslims in the terrorized nations that their own peace and tranquility is also at risk. Therefore, the battle is as much theirs as it is ours. Their surest road to personal vindication is to join with us in fighting these monsters, particularly by casting out those in their midst who foment hatred and advocate violence.

Finally, then – I believe that Tom Tancredo, guileless as he is, was just caught in a moment of skimming the list of possiblities and was pushed into a rhetorical corner so the usual suspects could give him a good P/R whipping. RWEJ
