58+% Are Not Against Immigration Bill

Published by at 3:33 pm under All General Discussions,Illegal Immigration

Well, here is a bizarre poll from USA Today/Gallup:

As the Senate prepares to vote on a landmark immigration bill, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds that Americans who have an opinion about it are overwhelmingly opposed to the deal.

By nearly 3-1, those who have a view say they’re against the compromise supported by Senate Democratic leaders and President Bush. However, 58% of those surveyed say they don’t know enough about the legislation to favor or oppose it.

USA Today tries really hard to spin this as meaning the immigration bill is in trouble, but that is more grasping for hope than reality it seems. Let’s have some fun with basic math. Of the 42% who did not fall into the “who knows any more” 58%, the story says they run 3-1 against the bill. OK, that means roughly 31% are against the Bill (75% of 42). That means 58+10 or 68% are for the bill or not sure. So 31-68 if you are looking for people who clearly oppose the Bill being passed. Now I understand why the bill’s proponents are feeling confident of passage. The opposition has not grown, just the ‘no opinion’. Will they trend into the opposition camp or fall back into the support camp where they existed for the last few years? We shall see.

You ask I will answer. BigSLUFan is a breath of fresh air compared to the immigration hypochondriacs. Better question – how does it feel to NOT have us on YOUR side?

If feels good. It feels damn good.

I would be embarrassed if you and I were on the same side.

So Apache, based on pure conjecture, calls Big LSU an exploiter of slave labor. Way to make your point, Apache.

Potner, you’re gonna have to provide a link to the site that shows the border agents at the level you claim. Nothing on google has that number. They had 9400 in Sept 05 and appropriations in ’06 only allowed adding 210 more agents that year (while 189 active agents were deployed with the National Guard) for a net of 21. So as of the end of 06 that would make a total active of 9421, so again point me to any valid( and I specifically exclude the White house link) that shows that we have 13000 active agents at the present time. That would mean that since the end of ’06 (5 months ago) that we have added 3579 agents (without any money being appropriated to do it with. Anyhow, provide the link, so we can all see this ‘inside information” you have.

big: you’re pulling numbers out of the air (or somewhere more private)

As you put it the devil is in the details

So……..provide the details so we can see.

I’m still laughing, AJ hasn’t yet detected that BigLSU Guy is the latest incarnation of Ken, Soothie, and a couple others. He has to be, he’s a lib, supports the illegals, spouts their line. Once the illegal business dies down and he gets on AJ’s case about all AJ’s conservative positions, he won’t last long. (he’ll just change his name again) See this is a lib thing they’re both promoting, something totally out of the ordinary for AJ, but right up Big’s alley.

Conjecture? I’d say he’s basing it on what BIG writes. Have you read any of it?

A.J. , please do not miss the excellent piece penned by Jeb Bush & Ken Mehlman…

“Doing nothing is the real amnesty.”

SallyVee, I read that article for a ways, waiting to the fiction to end and I never did get there. here’s a little quote”

Here’s what the bill does not do. It does not grant amnesty to the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the country and nor does it give a free pass to others who want to enter the country illegally.

The bill provides real border security for the first time,

They’re gonna have to go with non-fiction if they expect anyone to believe them.

  11. SallyVee says:

But the thing is, FE, I do believe them. And I don’t think their points are in the least bit naive or disconnected from political realities. Jeb & Ken seem to want to accomplish something. And they acknowledge the human and economic issues along with enforcement issues. Which is to my mind why it’s called comprehensive, and why it must be a comprehensive approach — as the prez has said all along. Call me crazy but their approach seems fair, practical, reasonable and even possibly DO-ABLE! I suppose to you FE that sounds like a total sellout, but I just don’t see it that way.

  13. Bikerken says:

SallyVee, have you never seen the peanuts cartoon with Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football? On one hand they say they will do this and that in the bill, in another sentence, they totally negate it. This what is called deception. And how can you on one hand go along with the idea, that we can’t just deport all of them, but we can process 12-20 million more people through a system that is already woefully overloaded at one tenth of that workload? That we can do 24 hr background checks on foreign born people? What exactly is fair about it? How fair do you think it looks to those folks who have waited for years to come to this country legally and they sit and watch the gate crashers elevated to a legal status that actually has some priveledges that even citizens don’t have. I think you mean what you say and your heart may be in the right place, but you just don’t have a real understanding of how severe this problem is and how much larger it can become. These people are purposely NOT assimilating here. They don’t feel they have to. Down here in So Cal, they actually think they own the land! They hate us and they are not shy in telling us so. McCain was right about one thing, if we don’t do something soon, we can have people rioting in the streets here the same way they are doing it in France. I think he is not only right about that, I think that is already a certainty for the same reasons that it is happening in France. You simply cannot import an entire country of low skilled anti assimilation people into your country without having a clash of cultures. To think you can is purely idotic as they are finding out in France. And look at what France is doing today, kicking them out! I don’t know where you live, but there are about 2 million illegals within a couple hundred miles of me right now. I see the problems every single day. I just don’t think that those who are not close to this problem have any clue as to what they are talking about.

  14. For Enforcement says:

    SallyVee

Jeb & Ken seem to want to accomplish something.

well that’s noble of them. And that something? get this bill passed which does only ONE thing; legalizes all illegals.

Well, turns out I want to accomplish something too, and that something: To secure the borders and establish a system dealing with the illegals that does not involve instant legalization and does not provide a new (as opposed to existing) path to citizenship. But first and foremost, secure the border. This bill does none of those things and does provide immediate legalization and a new path to 30-40 million new people.

  15. SallyVee says:

Hey Dale. I looked through your article which wasn’t bad… at least the author is talking about fixing things, making intelligent amendments, and going forward. I found that encouraging.

The billions of $$ under discussion don’t worry me much. I take all of those stats with a HUGE grain of salt… rule of thumb: divide by half, then subtract another few billion for good measure. Besides, I am not a tightwad when it comes to national security! It’s going to cost some $$ to put any plan in place to secure our borders. One thing that’s missing though is the potential unanticipated benefits and revenues that may occur once regularization begins and hostilities [hopefully] subside. Personally, I think we’ll all be pleasantly surprised.

A few places I had to hold my nose — the quotes from CIS (a Tanton outfit, totally discredited) and Heritage Foundation (less than forthcoming on this issue, especially in recent weeks). And my Cracker Senator Sessions (hey, he’s MY cracker so I can call him that, affectionately of course) needs an amendment to deny the Earned Income Tax credit… whatever it takes to make the senator happy, as long as he keeps moving in the right general direction.

Very interesting, I was reading comment over on Riehl World View on a post about this post. They sure don’t have any nice things to say about AJ’s point of view: This is just a sample and I had to clean up the language a little. AJ has better standards for language:

What frickin’ planet is A.J. on (“supported by large majorities”)? Recent Rasmussen poll (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/just_26_favor_senate_immigration_plan) shows that a mere 26% favor the Senate bill. This is Bi-Partisan OPPOSITION (“The measure is opposed by 47% of Republicans, 51% of Democrats, and 46% of those not affiliated with either major party”).

What is even MORE telling, is the view that ENFORCEMENT (of our borders) is where exists the majority: “Seventy-two percent (72%) of voters say it is Very Important for ‘the government to improve its enforcement of the borders and reduce illegal immigration.’ That view is held by 89% of Republicans, 65% of Democrats, and 63% of unaffiliated voters.”

Lest you (A.J.) think this is just a “blip” of the opinion scale, “These survey results are consistent with other recent polling data showing that most Americans favor an enforcement-only reform bill. Support drops when a ‘path to citizenship’ is added to the mix.”

Clearly, A.J. doesn’t know sh*t from shinola (or, simply, can’t read polls).

    FE,

Yes – the Reihl World Reihly bites in the maturity department!
As I said, the Rasmussen poll shows 65% favoring guest worker program. Oh well, maturity and comprehension seem to go hand-in-hand in many things in life.

  18. DaleinAtlanta says:

Senator Jeff Sessions (AL); has identified TWENTY major loopholes in the current Bill AS IS, that makes it “amensty”!

    Good reading!

I’ll give the solution now, for the naysayers: FIX THEM NOW, then we’ll support the bill!
