Adult Stem Cell Therapy For Heart Attacks

Published by at 3:29 pm under All General Discussions,Stem Cell Debate

As the Embryonic Stem Cell snake oil continues to fall behind all their hype, the Adult Stem Cell products are on the verge of coming to a pharmacy near you:

Australia’s adult stem cell company, Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB; US OTC: MBLTY), today announced that the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has cleared the Investigational New Drug Submission (IND) of its US-based sister company, Angioblast Systems Inc., to commence a Phase 2 clinical trial of its allogeneic, or ‘off-the-shelf’, adult stem cells for patients with heart attacks.

The Phase 2 clinical trial will be based at the Texas Heart Institute, and will follow a similar protocol to the one used by the same investigators in preclinical studies for the IND submission. These showed that implantation of the company’s proprietary allogeneic stem cells by catheter into damaged heart muscle resulted in significant improvement in heart function and reduction in congestive heart failure.

ESCR has not been able to do anything but create tumors, cancers and destruction. ASCR is saving lives. Results matter, words are meaningless.

The ASCR / ASCT is looking more and more promising! Thanks for the post.

Has any0ne seen this breakthrough in the press? No, and you probably won’t. ESCR is linked to the abortion people and they won’t give up anything about abortion. The media will continue to carry their water.

    AJ,

The results of government funded adult stem cell research seem promising. But to downplay ESCR outright from a science perspective is bogus. There will never be a breakthrough in ESCR without the same kind of government funding that adult stem cell research gets. So your implied comparison is like choking off one approach and then saying “see there, I told you that approach would never work”.

I don’t question your overall stance on the better of the two approaches, just the way you try to make the case for one via the results.

    Sammy,

I have a BS in biology and the ESCR is not going to show results for many decades if at all. And ANYTHING that can be done from an ESC can be done in an ASC – anything. Once you know how to turn on-off the genes any cell can be transformed.

    ESCR is pure snake oil.
