We Are At War With Iran

Published by at 8:06 am under All General Discussions,Iran,Iraq

For those on the left who have forgotten, Iran declared war on the US and the West in the late 1970’s, when Carter allowed Islamo Fascists to take out one of our ‘imperfect’ allies (no leader in the ME has clean hands, we just need to monitor HOW dirty the hands are). Could the Shah of Iran turned into another Saddam, who we thought we could deal with and later learned we could not. It is not the first time an ally in a time of need turned into a despicable monster (Saddam’s role model Stalin comes to mind). Who knows. But we have been at war with Iran for decades – at least they have declared it many times over. And so no one should be surprised to find the war with Iran is heating back up as they funnel weapons and technology to insurgents in Iraq to kill our people. And of course they will deny they are doing this while doing it. But what I cannot abide, and what this nation cannot tolerate, is denial by our leaders that our people are being killed because of the Iranians. First and foremost the leaders of this country took and oath to protect its people, especially those in harms way on a mission sanctioned by the governing bodies of this nation. We are in Iraq, as the result of Congressional authorizations. And the Democrat’s have no will or support to surrender Iraq at this time. So they are bound, by their pledges, to stand up for our people there. Any hesitation, resistance or caveating will mean they have turned against our military. They either stand firm against this act of aggression by Iran or they will be counted as allies of Iran instead of supporters of our troops.

No supporter of our men and women in the military could even conceive of allowing them to be slaughtered by Iranian deviance. None. The only way to give Iran a bye and claim support for our troops is to be a liar. There is no grey area here.

Assuming everything you say is true, what, exactly, do you propose that the United States do ? (And why do you single out Democrats as being bound to “stand firm”? Surely, you mean that the Federal Executive and all Federal Legislators “stand firm”, qué no?) What is “standing firm? What shall we do?

  2. Gotta Know says:

Glenn Greenwald has a lengthy post on his blog supporting the notion that the weapons are not coming from Iran, that this is all being trumped up by the administration as a cause for war.

Is it any wonder the war on Islamofacism is going less well than anyone would like?

  3. pagar says:

If the American left would support America, instead of Iran, any terrorist that says he’s against the US, or any American that says he will not support the US; the world would be completely different.

  4. Soothsayer says:

For those on the right – who either never knew or have forgotten, the United States declared war on Iran when we overthrew the democratically elected moderate secular govenrment of Mohammed Mossadegh in 1953 and re-installed a monarchy on the Peacock Throne.

If the United States had not meddled in the internal affairs of a soveriegn nation at the behest of the oil companies, it is quite possible that present day Iran would closely resemble Turkey – our ally – a nation with a predominantly Muslim population, but a secular government.

Nothing that Iraq has done to the United States to date, including the taking of hostages in 1979 – remotely approaches the damage we did to that county at the behest of John Foster Dulles and Allen Dulles, the then Secretary of State and head of the CIA, respectively.

It would be so refreshing to have you get your facts correct just once, AJ.

By casting aspersions on the Administration, the Left always lets us know how THEY would/have operated.

Their attacks are an indictment on them. Not one of them personally knows George W. Bush or Dick Cheney. Not one.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. And frankly, I personally believe they *know* how smart George is and have been frantically working to keep from forever losing any semblance of power. Afterall, they knew ahead of time that Kerry had worse grades at Yale than George.
    🙂

And AJ, regarding Strange Year, I am so with you except I have one small bone to pick about Sen. Snowe: she has not shown leadership and supported the President, imho…

    Hailing S.S. Strata —

Hello? 2 Hours (and several posts by the SS Strata on other threads) later. Hailing. What is “standing firm”? Who all should “stand firm”? What shall we do, assuming all you say is true?

Leave now. You are the reason I am closing down the ability to sign in and comment. We are done with you.

    Tough question, eh ?

    (via UPI 02/08/07 (ht TPMemo)

“At a farewell reception at Blair House for the retiring chief of protocol, Don Ensenat, who was President Bush’s Yale roommate, the president shook hands with Washington Life Magazine’s Soroush Shehabi. “I’m the grandson of one of the late Shah’s ministers,” said Soroush, “and I simply want to say one U.S. bomb on Iran and the regime we all despise will remain in power for another 20 or 30 years and 70 million Iranians will become radicalized.”

    “I know,” President Bush answered.

“But does Vice President Cheney know?” asked Soroush.

President Bush chuckled and walked away.”

Ivehadit, do you mean the “mission accomplished”, “there
is no insurgency” George of 2003?

Juancole.com has a veritable wealth of information on yesterday’s
posting demonstrating how and why Iran is being framed by the
“Saddam still has WMDs/Doug Feith” crowd-and the pro-war (in 2002-3 and now )MSM is collaborating again!

    Juan Cole??

    ROTFLMAO! Seriously?

Still believe in the tooth fairy as well?

  12. Terrye says:

    lassoingtruth:

What a dumb and idiotic handle.

Listen you idiot, I heard the Democrats, including Bill Clinton say over and over again that Saddam had weapons. Bill spent the 90’s saying that. Maybe you were drunk or still in grade school or whatever, but long before Bush came to office the Clinton administration and the UN were dealing with Saddam and his weapons and his ties to terroism. The thing I find the most annoying about the left is that they have the attention span of a house fly.

As far as Iran is concerned they have been chanting Death to America for decades. And back in the Cold war when the US supposedly was meddling in their affairs the left was slobbering all over Uncle Joe Stalin who had sent about 35 million people to the gulags to die. But that is ok, being a leftie means you never have to say you are sorry. So while it is perfectly acceptable to excuse the fascist mullahs in Iran killing Americans today because of something they say happened 54 years ago, we are just supposed to overlook people like Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh and Castro etc who were part of that Cold War era.

If the Democrats really think that the Iranians are the victims here and the big bad Bushies are picking on them, then perhaps the Democrats could learn a little Farsi and work in the chant Death to America that their buddies the Iranians have been chanting for years. Obama could chant in on the campaign trail to show solidartity with their new allies, the holocaust denying Anti American mullahs of Iran.

And Juan cole is a moron. This is a guy who said that one of the reasons for attacks on the west was the Massacre of Jenin. Of course there was no massacre at Jenin and it took place after rather than before.

But if Cole is a source for you and you believe him then you are a lost cause so there is no point in talking to you. Why don’t you go live over there and leave this country if you hate it so much? I am not talking about loving it or leaving it, but why stay someplace like this when you could go live in a nice place like the occupied terrtitories or Tehran? Moron.

Ah – The SS Strata is sighted – befogged, bedraggled, but beheld!

    Hosanna.

Breaking News: SS Strata is just returned from its trip to Sol (lying 3 light-minutes distance from Terra by the Strata’s captain/helmsman’s measure (albeit 8+ light-minutes as calculated by sentient beings in the Universe [see comments at recent strata topic 3340 (Global Warming)])
The Strata continues, however, to be unable to explain what “standing firm” means with respect to this thread, and unable to proffer an opinion on what the US should do if the trumpeted accusations against Iran are in fact accurate. Longtime Strata-observers are reportedly somewhat crestfallen, but not altogether surprised.
    Message End.

Are you playing strategy chess to have an excuse to ban me too?

    Baiting me with short insolences?

Hoping I’ll say something more curt than ProfessorJuan Cole is a
Mideast , Iraqi and Syrian expert , acknowledged as such, degreed
in such and frequent consultant on such on national shows–who has
been right on the regress & unwinnability of the war in his archived
    columns since 2003?

Whereas you are not any of these ,but much more importantly, the
“experts” which you have extolled on the same subjects since
then and pretended should still be trusted–have all been wrong on the war,the WMDs, its duration (I have counted five “turning points” offered by you ,echoing them since 2003.)

Please resist the temptation to play ban-enabling chess like this!

    Terrye

Saddam HAD weapons but both Powell and Rice assured us he no longer had them in 2001. Until 9/11 changed their tune. Yes, they’re on record. So is Scott Ritter and Hans Blix, both on scene.

I notice, Terrye you did not accuse Iran of that which you
accused Stalin. Clever clouding offacts. But you have already
expressed approval of US fighting alongside Stalin against
a supposed greater threat, so spare a non-interventionist your
    inconsistencies.

Bin Laden himself said he picked the WTC after observing
the American financed bombardment of Beirut’s Towers.

Some say he lied. But several hijackers’ writings include
angry criticism of US support for Israel, and he seems to
have picked up increased support after he broadened his
propaganda to emphasize the Palestinian suffering and
    vow to liberate them.

No wonder the moderate Arab governments plead with us
to save them from jihad recruiting their subjects on that issue before
    proceeding on.

    Eh?

  16. Terrye says:

    Lassoing:

What a load of crap. Really that was just one big frigging lie. All of it.

Both Powell and Rice did not assure of us of that in 2001, because no one had that kind of access.

In fact as late as Spring of 2000 Zinni was saying Iraq was our biggest threat.

No doubt you think you can cherry pick some snippet of something taken out of context they supposedly said or whatever that you think you can use to make some idiotic point, but that is not true….besides I keep hearing that Bush was planning to take out Saddam from the word go and used the weapons as an excuse. You people can not even keep your conspiracies straight.

Bill had already said there was no doubt the weapons were there and he stuck to that for a long time.

And the point was not only weapons stockpiles, which could be hid or sold or given away, but the programs to create them which still existed.

In fact if your hero Saddam had been allowed to bribe his way out of the sanctions and get the US to stop flying the no fly zones there would be no reason to believe that he would not have gone right back to killing his own people in the hudnreds of thousands while at the same time he reconstituted his programs. There would have been nothing to stop him.

And what are you talking about accusing Iran of what I accused Stalin? I am saying that the socalled meddling took place during the cold war when the Iranians intended to nationalize the British holdings and ally themselves with the Soviet Union. My point is that while the left thinks they have the right to judge others, they themselves are always aabove repute…so while they pander to some of the great homicidal mad men of the last 100 years they preen and preach and pass judgment. In other words I am calling you and your kind hypocrites.

Bin Laden also said he went after the US because Clinton was picking on his friends in Iraq but the left has completely overlooked that. No, they are still doing their power to the people schtick while they hero worship a mass murdering billionaire.

As for the US support of Isreal, what is with the lefty love of anti semites? These same people hate homosexuals and think women are a lower form of life. Do you agree with that as well? Will we see the left start to harass gays and execute unwed mothers?

Arafat robbed his people blind. His wife lived in a luxury apartment in Paris and went shopping in fancy boutiques while poor people in the occupied territories were living in poverty and grooming their children to commit suicide while taking as many Jews with them as possible. Peace was of no use to the likes of Arafat, all he was interested in was bilking naive Jewhaters like you so he could kill people and live high on the hog like the mafia Don he was.

As for recruiting jihadis, that is not our fault. These people are not helpless children devoid of reason who are molded by the west, they know what they are doing. They want to kill people in the name of their perveted view of religion and that is what they are doing in the Phillipines, Spain, London, Bali, Istanbul, Pakistan, Kabul, Bali, Bangladesh, Morocco, Egypt, Tel Aviv, Eat Timor, Thailand, Indonesia, Argentina, NYC, PA, Virginia, Tunisia, Algiers, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, just to mention a few places and they have been doing since long before the neo cons were there to blame.

The problem I have with people like you is your ignorance, your lack of historical perspective, your complete lack of understanding of this dynamic and your childish silly anti Americanism.

I just wrote a long post in answer to lassoing and it is gone. It is not worth the effort to reproduce.

Suffice to say that lassoing did not make one single factual statement in that post of his. Not one. That is something. One would think that the law of averages would dictate an occasional truth, but no…it was all nonsense.

And it reinforces something I have noticed about the left, they have no grasp of history or even the basic facts of things. They live in a fantasy world where Saddam and Osama fly kites and play with unicorns while evil Jews and neocons and capitalists wreak havoc with happy peaceful Arabs. Pitiful.
