Three Cheers For Howard

Published by at 2:54 pm under All General Discussions,Bin Laden/GWOT

Australia’s Prime Minister Howard said the obvious today: al Qaeda would really love for Barack Obama to win the Presidential election in 2008 and hasten the surrender of the West in the ME. Howard has every right to make this statement since he has put his military forces into harms way to fend off the evil that is Islamo Fascism. And it is no small fact that Australia lies much closer to the Islamo Fascist threat and has seen a lot of its own citizens killed in the attacks in Bahli and elsewhere. Howard is just being realistic. Those who are trying to stem the tide of al Qaeda cannot do it without America. As the Tsunami response in Indonesia and elsewhere clearly illustrated, without US logistics no major movements of material and people are possible. US air support, sea power, intelligence are just as critical as our fighting forces on the ground in Baghdad. And Obama represents a complete surrender and withdrawal. We may not like what Howard has to say, but it is because he is right and it is because his people are out there now. They will still be out there if we leave and that makes it uncomfortable for us to hear the truth. Fact is we cannot afford to elect a democrat President unless it is someone just like Joe Lieberman. And if that is what it takes to win, so be it.

Lieberman has already shown us how he alters the cut of his tune to fit the cut of his political ambitions. He’s a leftwing hack and will always be so. The reason he’s not anti-war is because he can’t afford to make the Jews who vote for him mad.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that a Democratic victory in ’08 will be a disaster that will be abundantly apparent to us all if, God forbid, it happens.

I have a Kiwi friend and they’re totally dependent on Australia and the U.S. for their security. The NZ government is composed of moonbats who pander to Moslems and Maoris to stay in power and Indonesia is a looming threat with their huge Moslem population and heart wrenching poverty.

We must stay the course, support the president and vote for anybody but a Dem in ’08.

I love John Howard—–the French and the Dems must hate him.

  3. kathie says:

Obama complained about the number of troops Australia sent to Iraqi, does he know that Australia has a population of 40 million?

  4. dgf says:

    S.S. Strata –

Now, boy-o, just how many Aussie servicemen are in Iraq, and what do they do? And how many casualties (mortal and otherwise) have they suffered, out there “in harm’s way”. Does well under 5 dead ring a bell? Not to disparage Australian honor, or sacrifice or losses, or anything of the sort. But far more Western correspondents have died in Iraq than Australian soldiers. Hell, far more UN personnel or Red Cross personnel have fallen. Why, heavens above; it would appear that an Australian’s risk of injury in Iraq is not terribly much greater than that of a militant blogger-mouth, sitting comfy by his fireplace on Superbowl Sunday. Which is, of course, to say: nil. (And why is it again, that you’re still in civvies, studly?)

And what say you regards Howard’s other recent comments – Guantanamo-wise, that is? Do you express your solidarity with the Premier and affirm the outrageousness of evergreen imprisonment, without trial, for whomsoever our Dear Leader decides to label an “unlawful combatant” ?

  5. kathie says:

DGF is it possible for you to have a conversation with out the sarcasm, why not just say, not enough Aussie’s have died in this battle, instead of all that other crap. Many have commented on the guy in Guantanamo, Howard could have had that guy back if he wanted, guess he doesn’t. Hicks is more then a poor pathetic guy picked up on the battle field. I think you need to do more reading. Go to Kos with your diatribe.

  6. dgf says:

    Kathie —

You’re missing the point re: Hicks, dear. Re-read my post (and Google-News “hicks” and “howard”, if you need to). You also miss the point re: the australian casualties. I was responding to S.S.’s “righteous right to talk” argument, and manifestly not calling for more deaths in Iraq.

  7. gumshoe says:

“Not to disparage Australian honor, or sacrifice or losses, or anything of the sort.”

i think “anything of the sort”
    covers it for dgf.

but surely his heart is in the right place.

  8. kathie says:

DGF-You would not have brought the subject of Australia and Howard if more troops had been killed and you know it. You brought it up because not enough had died, and Howard had dared to comment on Obama.

  9. lassoingtruth says:

By his own description of what he considers to be geopolitical
reality, the comfy “SS Strata” is applauding another nation’s
President for desiring to use our military as fodder to protect
his people rather than wishing America forcing him to strengthen his own Australian military by prioritizing our domestic problems.

Which, paradoxically, Obama positions himself by so prioritizing,
    as more “conservative” than Strata.

    Dear AJ,

Bali. For God’s sake, it’s Bali. Please learn how to spell!

    From Australia,

    Christoph

P.S. Or just use a spell checker… cut and paste everything into word or, better yet, the wicked spell checker included standard with Firefox 2… and it’s that easy.

It won’t catch everything, but it will catch three quarters of your atrocious spelling errors… Bahli indeed (yes, it caught that one)!

  11. Terrye says:

It seems to me that back when Kerry was under the impression he might be president someone from his campaign went to Australia and made a point of badmouthing Howard because he had supported Bush in Iraq. So I guess it is ok to interfere in another country’s politics when the guy doing the interfering is a Democrat running for president.

The Australians have stood with America in every war we have fought for about a century now. They have a long tradition as a steadfast ally and if we are going to trade war stories…the Japanese were breathing down their necks and killing their nurses in WW2..but they did not back down.

  12. Terrye says:

Oh yes, now I remember..it was John Kerry’s sister working for his campaign. She tried to scare the Australians out of the coalition, which means if the Democratic nominee for the White House tried to get the Aussies to go home. And now they complain there aren’t enough Aussies in Iraq. You just can not make some people happy.

  13. dennisa says:

What distinguishes the antiwar crowd is the pomposity of its language and it’s utter disdain for conflicting opinions. Not personally flattering characteristics.

  14. lassoingtruth says:

The “anti-war crowd” consists of 75% of the American people.
It’s kind of pompous to pigeonhole so many.

  15. kathie says:

The Anti war crowd can’t think past today. They have no vision, do not understand the consequences of removing our troops, and are selfish beyond belief. They think that if we remove our troops we will go back to the good old days of the 90’s. They think we are in a situation to be solved, if we get out we can have free medical care, education, and any other free-bees the politicians can think of. You see the real problem with fighting a war is that it costs money, they don’t care about lives, it’s the money stupid. They need the war money for domestic projects. That is the long and short of it.

  16. lassoingtruth says:

Sure , it’s the money stupid. Money spent on many social programs is wasted; money spent on no-win wars based on lies is wasted.
But a government which wastes money on fraudulent foreign adventures leaves itself open to charges from “starry-eyed liberals” who would waste it at home. Some money set aside to strengthen New Orleans levees pre-Katrina was diverted to the war. So were National Guard troops unavailable at home when needed.

The Kathies of America believe America can stage-manage the world
with military industrial complex freebees, rebuild its domestic infra-structure , and solve pressing problems like border control with
ease. They are learning a hard lesson.

  17. lurker9876 says:

Anyone watch tonight’s Extreme Makeover? They rebuilt a house for an ex-Marine that helped rescue two policemen on 9/11 at the WTC. The Marines came out. The Vietnam Vets came out. Everyone came out with flags. I think the 75% percentage is wrong.

  18. kathie says:

If we have another 911, or people running around this country blowing up shopping malls, buildings, gas stations or oil fields it won’t matter about levees, tuition, health care, none of it will be affordable by this government. Why do the Dems want to leave Iraq, because it is a power/political calculation. Do they really think we will fight terrorists better with our soldiers sitting at home? They have no strategy to protect this country. They have a political agenda to get votes.

  19. Dc says:

I find it odd, that countries complain about the growing instability of Iraq, etc., about the death and violence, but don’t want to lift a FINGER to do anything about it..other than complain. They just want to point it out for us I guess.

So, what’s our big plan then? Pull out and let them kill each other? May the best man win? Let Iran and S.A. pimp it out until somebody gives? Do we plan to go back to supporting ruthless, fickle, bloody dictators again (i.e…what many complained before as root of US hipocrasy, economic exploitation and root cause of the rise of fundamentalism?)

I mean, lets just admit it, we are all perfectly willing to stand by and watch the entire region turn into a flying flesh pit. We do it all the time. And we remark how terrible it is and point fingers, but God Forbid we have to do anything about it. Hell, we can’t even get “NATO” countries in Europe and elsewhere to cough up troops for Afghanistan! It doesn’t matter what we are talking about, the reasons for being there, or where it is. It doesn’t matter if it’s Afghanistan or IRaq..or Darfur…

So, if we are going to accept such things as part of the world we live in, and just turn our backs on them, then lets stop pretending we care about such things. We can stop pointing fingers at people and complaining and just let them kill each other, wait to see who emerges as the next bloody, ruthless dictator and suck to them to exploit their people. That will surely bring stabilty for a while.

It is scary to me that there are those that think that all that have been called to jihad by the Imams who are demanding the death of the Great Satin will just return to their goat herds if we leave Iraq. It seems the doves cannot see past their own noses. So we leave Iraq…
a full fledged civil war breaks out in Iraq with no one to control it; genocide follows; Iran goes in and takes the Iraqi oil fields from which the finance the terrorist movement; oil money funds attacks on Israel from both Iran and it’s puppet, Syria. Terrorists that were once fighting coalition soldiers in Iraq are now flooding across our southern borders enmasse.
In Chicago, Dallas, Los Angles, Miami, Tucson, Philadelphia and Boston we hear BOOM!
as suicide bombers board buses, walk into schools.

I guess the left has forgotten that the terrorists have been trying to kill us since 1979.
