Pelosi & Emanuel Refuse Polys On Foleygate?

Published by at 9:53 am under All General Discussions,Foleygate

Here is a weird tidbit to come from the Foleygate – apparently House Leaders are refusing to take Polygraph’s regarding what and when they knew about the Foley problems regarding Pages (or more accurately former Pages):

Democrat House Minority Leader and Speaker aspirant Nancy Pelosi and Representative Rahm Emanuel, Chairman of the House’s Democrat Campaign Committee, refused a request by a Republican Congressman to take a polygraph test designed to ascertain whether they knew about now former Republican Congressman Mark Foley’s misconduct (perhaps criminal misconduct) with respect to at least one Congressional page before it became public knowledge.

Now I have no clue to the veracity of this ‘article’ and we all know Pelosi and Emanuel have the right to refuse and must be considered innocent until demonstrated otherwise. But as the article points out, the poly’s are good enough for all our men and women in Homeland Defense to take, so there is a good rationale to take one without admitting or demonstrating any guilt. Sounds whacky to me, but for political theatre it is interesting (if not humorous).

Update: Mac Ranger has more on the challenge to Democrat leaders to testify under oath – and their apparent refusal.

North Carolina Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry called on Democratic leaders yesterday to testify under oath about when they knew of former Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) Internet communications with a House page.

He asked that Pelosi and Emanuel offer a “yes or no” answer as to whether they would go under oath “to assure the American people that neither you nor your staffs had prior knowledge or involvement — at the strategic or tactical levels — with the release of Foley’s e-mails and/or instant messages.”

Spokespeople for Pelosi and the DCCC dismissed McHenry’s demand as political posturing.

Now I can see the Polygraph being a stretch to demand, but to testify?? This looks really bad for Pelosi who has demanded an investigation for days now.

Look at this site about Foly and the former page.

If I understand this correctly, the young man may not have stated his age correctly on the blog site. I think he said he was younger than he was.

It is very confusing. I will let you parse it.

I like to hear all the facts first.

I think the article you have linked is fairly accurate. On FOX a Republican named Patrick McHenry (?) said on FOX that he asked some democrats like Nancy Pelosi to sign an afidavit that they had not known about this business earlier.

    Pelosi refused.

This link as a lot about McHenry asking some Democrats to

Here is the first part of the article:

North Carolina Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry called on Democratic leaders yesterday to testify under oath about when they knew of former Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) Internet communications with a House page.

Writing to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), McHenry questioned whether Democrats had a role in publicizing the e-mails, which broke in the middle of the fall election season creating a furor rarely seen in congressional politics.

“Is the American public to believe that neither of you nor your staffs nor anyone associated with your staffs had prior knowledge or involvement with the release of Foley’s e-mails and/or explicit instant messages? Is the American public to believe that ABC News stumbled haphazardly on this story without Democratic assistance?” wrote McHenry, a freshman Republican who has emerged as an attack dog for the GOP.

He asked that Pelosi and Emanuel offer a “yes or no” answer as to whether they would go under oath “to assure the American people that neither you nor your staffs had prior knowledge or involvement — at the strategic or tactical levels — with the release of Foley’s e-mails and/or instant messages.”

The same article as above claims:

    QUOTE
ABC News reporter Brian Ross told The New York Times on Tuesday that his source was a Republican.

“I hate to give up sources, but to the extent that I know the political parties of any of the people who helped us, it would be the same party,” Ross said.

ABC News investigative producer Maddy Sauer worked on the story with Ross.

“They were passed to a colleague of mine from a source, not someone from a Democratic campaign, a source on the Hill,” Sauer told Democracy Now Tuesday.

At least two other news organizations, The Miami Herald and The St. Petersburg Times, knew of the email exchange but opted not to publish it.

Still, Republican operatives point out that an ethics watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) had a copy of the emails as early as July 21 and passed them on to the FBI. They note that several of CREW’s staff members previously worked on Capitol Hill for Democrats.

But a spokeswoman for CREW, Naomi Seligman Steiner, told The Hill Tuesday that the group did not pass the emails to any other entity and was not the source of the ABC News story.

This site suggests that the former page has hired a high-powered lawyer.

He may have understated his age. He may have been an adult when this happened. And he may not have been working for Congress.

    Maybe he lied.

    http://www.newsok.com/article/2951137/

    Still, Foley is sick.

He resigned and so Congress can’t investigate him. They are going to investigate the Republicans.

McHenry has a point that all the people making the accusations should also be checked to see what they knew.

I think this guy might be at the bottom of this story and I doubt he contacted the Republicans because the Republicans fired him as a tutor for the pages in question because they said his covering for the pages put the kids at risk and endangered the entire page program. http://members.tripod.com/secretpage_1/

I gotta clean house for guests but I hope somebody will pick up on this. I’m sure this guy would love to have the guy who fired him for endangering the program blamed instead for endangering the program.

BTW, I’ve enjoyed reading your blog, AJ. You probably don’t remember me, but I’ve conversed with you in the past on the Opinion Forum a while back.

I am re-reading this article. I think I am mistaken. He seems to be only 21 now. I thought I read somewhere one of the boys was actually older. It is very confusing.

    Dems Won’t Take Polygraphs…

I thought I heard this on FOX this morning and now it’s up on Gateway Pundit…they won’t take polygraphs that might show they’ve been sitting on the Foley information for quite some time….

  9. The Foley Scandal, Part One Billion…

How is it that ABC, Blogactive, AMERICABlog, and this unheard of new blog Stop Sex Predators, all seemed to be working in unison to get as much publicity out of friendly emails, and then all of a sudden these IM’s appeared? Who got these emails …

  10. gil says:

    Right Wingers.

Several observations besides the ovbious one that you sound pathetic:

    1) The Republicans are in control of the House of Representatives. With power comes responsabilty. Foley is a Republican in a Republican Congress. Stop BS’ing and take it like man…. Are you now the “Cut and Run” Right when it comes to moral values? Or are you just interested on Clinton’s moral values?
Does the word looking the other way means anithing to you, or do you think that Americans are as idiotic as you are to believe the load of Bull we are getting from Hatcher?

    2) Now you want the Democrats to take Plygraphs…. Why not call for the Republicans to do the same? No one on this demented blog is asking for it, why?

    3) What is your point Right Wingers? The Democrats kept the information so that they could do major damage to your party? Even in the event that they did, what do you expect? Hatcher did the same thing. As of today there is a long parade of Republican Congresman, and staffers declaring publicly that Hatcher was informed years ago of the problem, and you are worried about the Democrats!!!…. Hey Right Wingers…. are you guys nuts or what? The Congressman and the staffers informed REPUBLICANS about the problem, not Democrats. But now you bunch of HYPOCRITS are worried about what the Democrats new?

Thank god you assholes are on your way out. Look at yourselves in the mirror…. A long hard look….. Next time you come to the rest of us with your “Moral Values” remember that you need to take a shower first because you stink..

  11. The Macker says:

    Gil,
It’s easy to understand why you Dems are uncomfortable with “moral values.”

Before you charge “hypocracy” explain why the Dems reward their perverts.

  12. fiskhus jim says:

From Alexander Bolton in THE HILL:

The source who in July gave news media Rep. Mark Foley’s (R-Fla.) suspect e-mails to a former House page says the documents came to him from a House GOP aide.

That aide has been a registered Republican since becoming eligible to vote, said the source, who showed The Hill public records supporting his claim.

The same source, who acted as an intermediary between the aide-turned-whistleblower and several news outlets, says the person who shared the documents is no longer employed in the House.

But the whistleblower was a paid GOP staffer when the documents were first given to the media.

  13. AJStrata says:

    Fiskhus Jim,

Everytime I read that Kirk Fordham comes to mind.

    AJStrata

  14. gil says:

    RE: Mecker

Democrats reward their perverts for the same reason Republicans do…. Hypocrisy. You Republicans can’t claim moral superiority over a Ninfomaniac, let along over Democrats. The difference between the two parties is not who is the hypocrit here, clearly the two parties have plenty of examples to trow around. Republicans however CLAIM the high grownd in the Moral Values war…..After your Party’s cover up of Foley’s Depravity, any rational American will see the true “value” of your so called Moral Values.

Get real pall…. face it you are a bunch of hypocrits. Who made Foley quit? The Republicans or the Democrats? Reason I ask is because you people are angry at the Democrats because according to your spinners (Or Bull Shitters) they some how got a hold of the e-mails and had the temerity to uncover your dirt. But Democrats are hypocrits !!! Like I said Get REAL.

    Rodney Alexander Republican for Louisiana
    John Boehner Republican for Ohio
Tom Reynolds Republican for New York

Recognise the names? All of them and more Republicans staffers came out publicaly to declare that they informed the House Speker YEARS AGO of the potential problem and nothing was done until the e-mails were published, and the scandal exploded in your faces ….. So who is the hypocrit Mecker?

  15. Les Ismore says:

Of course the Dims should take polygraphs. They cant prove that they werent behind this. I also want to know how the terrorists have tainted our spinich supply! Osama Bin Ladin is behind all of this to make the strong Republican patriots look bad just in time for an election.
