The State Of The Democrats

Published by at 1:37 pm under 2006 Elections,All General Discussions

Here is an extremely cogent, observant and in my opinion accurate assessment of the current political forces flowing through America, especially as they relate to Iraq and Lamont and the Dems:

Still, the outcome at least focuses a bright light on a debate that is now taking place in the national Democratic Party, and which is therefore of great importance not only to the party but, at least potentially, to the country as a whole. That debate, put simply, is this: Should the United States pull out of its military operation in Iraq?
For Republicans, that question is pretty well foreclosed. We are there, and in the two years and four months remaining in George W. Bush’s presidency, we are going to stay there. The military operation, and its political consequences, is going far from satisfactorily, but to its supporters the consequences of a pullout seem infinitely worse.
For the Democrats, however, the picture looks very different. It was Bush who, for better or worse, propelled us into war against Iraq, and all of its negative consequences can be laid at his door. The temptation to blame him and pull out must be well nigh unbearable.

Even if the Democrats were to sweep into control of both Houses of Congress this November, and follow that up by capturing the White House in 2008, it would take a pretty rabid partisan to welcome the prospects facing the new Democratic president. Whether America’s withdrawal from Iraq occurred before his or her inauguration or (more likely) had to be carried out on his watch, he would have to cope with consequences almost unimaginably bleak. America’s reputation, for honor and even courage, would be near zero. The Middle East would be a zoo of America-hating Islamist regimes. Flush with triumph and sure of ultimate victory, Islamic terrorists would flood the Western world, and above all the United States. Iran would be only the next in a series of nuclear-armed Islamist states.
So the Democrats have some serious thinking to do. Much depends, for all of us, on what they decide.

I only disagree on the last point. America has decided everytime we saw a vote in Congress to withdrawl from Iraq and the vote was trounced. Narry a complaint outside the anti-war left was heard. America will not chose the bleak future of surrender at any cost. The Democrat party, on the other hand, has everything riding on this fall. How many anti-war debacles do the Dems think America will let them have before they are relegated to the history books with the Whigs? Two would be plenty in my opinion. They scraped by with Vietnam. There is no stomach for another Vietnam at the hands of the surrender-monkeys.

I wonder why it is that the Democrats think they can screw around for two terms under Clinton and then get away wihout assuming any real lasting effects for their mistakes during those years. But somehow they can blame Bush forever. If they win and pull out what follows will be on their heads.

The democrats are liars. During the Clinton debacle, I noticed the democrat pundits on television would tell blatant lies and smirk while doing so. They knew they were lying and they knew we knew they were lying, but they thought repetition would save the day. They are still pulling the same tricks. There are democrats I can’t bear to watch because of this. I had left the democrat party some years before for this reason.

You couldn’t mean Paul Begalla? Gasp could this paragon of enlightenment be less than sincere?

I am still somewhat confused by the mixed signals of what is really the democratic platform of stand on the issues.

Somehow they seem to be wanting to create some nondescript, all embrasing silly putty smooth but cool deceptively neutral brain probe.

If they wish to go with that more power to them.

However having said that, maybe now I can get some royalty payments from them if I get them to support may patented Jello trampoline!

Alan Colmes is especially consistent on this. You can almost read his mind, that he doesn’t even believe most of the positions he is espousing, he is just doing it to be controversial to Hannity.
