Libby Has Five Card Flush

Published by at 7:09 pm under All General Discussions

It seems a bit of a bombshell was exploded on Special Counsel Fitzgerald’s forehead today as Team Libby claims they have fuve people willing to testify they learned about Valerie from none other than Joe (I will shop my story to anyone) Wilson. Over to Byron York at NRO for the scoop:

Lewis Libby defense lawyer Theodore Wells told a federal judge a short time ago that the Libby defense team has located “five witnesses who will say under oath that Mr. [Joseph] Wilson told them his wife worked for the CIA.”

Notice they do not put time frames on them. And one wonders if the persons willing to ‘say under oath’ are being compelled. I posted earlier (here and here) on people claiming to be blabbed to by Joe Wilson. Including John Gibson of Fox, and Gen Paul Vallely who is a Fox News military consultant (one of the best on TV actually).
The reason I wonder about whether these people are coming forward of their own volition is because we know one Rand Beers, from the Kerry campaign, opened his big mout to the Boston Globe admitting his knowledge.

Kerry’s advisers acknowledged yesterday that Wilson, who has also donated $2,000 to Kerry this year, told them about his allegations against the White House involving his wife before going public with them this summer. But Rand Beers, Kerry’s top adviser on foreign affairs, said the campaign has not played a role in coordinating Wilson’s charges.

Note the plural on ‘advisors’. Rand Beers is one. Is Berger another?
My starter list:

  1. Gen Paul Vallely
  2. John Gibson
  3. Rand Beers (admitted as much to Boston Globe)
  4. Sandy Berger
  5. John Landay (Knight Ridder)
  6. Nicholas Kristof (NY Times) – plus editors and researchers and reporters
  7. Walter Pincus (WaPo) – plus editors and researchers and reporters
  8. Bob Novak (confirming the news about his wife)
  9. Marc Grossman

Wonder who it might be!

Update: Joe Wilson has offered a non-denial response:

“The last I heard,” Wilson says, “this is case is about allegations Mr. Libby lied, perjured himself before the FBI, special prosecutor and grand jury and obstructed justice. None of those charges of which he’s been indicted has anything to do with me.”

Wilson goes on to say, “Furthermore, the government in the person of the special prosecutor in his court filings has made it clear it believes several White House officials were engaged in a campaign to, quote, `discredit, punish and seek revenge’ on me. It would appear that campaign is ongoing.”

In other words Joe Wilson is admitting he was the one who outed his wife!  Wilson is such dufus.  Everytime someone points out what a liar he is he claims he is being smeared.  Well, yes Joe.  You are being smeared, with your own words!  Try not to shoot the messengers.

Yeah, Amb Wilson tells us all again how much punishment this has been.

VALERIE PLAME WILSON’S SEVEN-FIGURE DEAL [Byron York]
While her husband’s actions were being questioned in the Libby courtroom, Valerie Plame Wilson was wrapping up her book deal. The New York Times reports that Mrs. Wilson will be paid “a little more than $2.5 million” for “Fair Game,” scheduled for publication in Fall 2007 by Crown.

Dufus indeed! How could “several White House officials” have “engaged in a campaign to, quote, `discredit, punish and seek revenge’ on” Wilson by “outing” his wife, if Wilson himself had been busily outing her at every opportunity? I saw in a thread on Free Republic a poster claiming to be acquainted with Victor Davis Hanson who, according to the poster, recounted a similar story about Wilson. If that story is to be believed, it sounds like blabbing about his wife’s employment was a compulsion with Wilson.

So the charges against Libby suddenly have nothing to do with you, aye Wilson? Not shaken, not stirred, but spun.

Lots of info, but VDH did– around Vallely time come out— say Wilson did not say CIA to him — just a whole bunch of other braggy crud.

So, AJ — are you suggesting that Sandy Berger will be compelled to testify?

    They said willing…willing under oath.
