Congress Is Capitulating On Terrorist Surveillance Program

Published by at 12:29 am under All General Discussions,FISA-NSA

The revelations about the NSA Terrorist Surveillance Program have not yet made the national news – but they will. Instead of an effort to bypass FISA, FISA court judges leaked to the Washington Post a while back the fact they have been rejecting leads of possible terrorists in the US simply because they do not recognize the NSA as a valid source of warnings against possible attack.

One thing the Dubai Port deal did bring to the forefront was America’s distrust of Arab-Muslims here in our country in positions that pose a risk. One thing the Democrats and Republicans realize is a purchase of a UK firm is nowhere near the possible threat as people in communication with Al Qaeda cells and leaders overseas.  While America may be torn about an Arab owned company managing terminal operaitons in some ports – people in the US in contact with probable Al Qaede members is a no brainer.  The NSA has been detecting these obvious risks, the FISA court and their supporters have been resisting these leads and exposing the program to the media and the terrorists.

So is it any wonder Congress is re-assessing the NSA leak issue?  What kind of logic dictates DPW is a risk, but NSA detecting people in direct contact with Al Qaeda is not?

Despite widespread criticism of President Bush’s warrantless surveillance program, even vociferous detractors in Congress stop short of calling for an end to the anti-terrorist eavesdropping.

The program lets the National Security Agency (NSA) intercept — without a court-approved warrant — international communications with one end in the USA and one party suspected of ties to al-Qaeda or an affiliated terrorist group. Bush authorized the program shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., said in an interview that the challenge is not to halt the surveillance but to “get it right.”

How pathetic.  These political weather vanes are simply doing whatever they think will win them the most votes this fall.  Thankfully, no one is ready to give Al Qaeda free reign in America.   Watch these supposed paragons of virtue fold faster than you can say ‘Boo’!
