Congressional Report On Obama’s Gulf Oil Incompetence

Updates Below

More later as I digest all this, but Darrell Issa has released a congressional report on the Gulf oil disasrer(without the Dems who are shuddering at facing the incompetence of their ‘hope & change’ leader). It is very damning. It discusses a fraudulent hoax being played on the American people:

The White House blog details a number of assets deployed in the region to combat the spill. This includes vessels, boom, and dispersant. The number of assets claimed, however, does not appear to match what is actually in the field. Parish officials maintain that the thousands of vessels cited in the blog are non-existent. One senior official refers to them as “phantom assets.” When asked to elaborate, he explained that when he asks the federal government to provide the location of the assets, it either refuses or cannot do so. Daily helicopter search grids performed by the Parish sheriff’s department confirm to him that very few of the assets claimed are deployed.

This is corroborated by Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, who shared a similar story with investigators. BP and Coast Guard provided Mr. Nungesser with a map of the Gulf allegedly pinpointing the exact locations of 140 skimmers cleaning up oil. Sensing that the chart may have been somewhat inaccurate, Mr. Nungesser requested a flyover of the assets for verification. After three cancelled trips, officials admitted to Mr. Nungesser that only 31 of the 140 skimmers were ever deployed. The rest were sitting at the docks. According to Mr. Nungesser, the chart appeared to have been fabricated.

H/T Washington Examiner.

Not coincidentally, the liberal news outlet PBS is also complaining about a media blackout by the Obama administration on the containment and clean up efforts:

But there’s one roadblock that we encountered that mystified us — and, we understand, many other journalists. It has been virtually impossible to get any information about the federal mobile medical unit in the fishing town of Venice, La. The glorified double-wide trailer sits on a spit of newly graveled land known to some as the “BP compound.” Ringed with barbed wire-topped chain link fencing, it’s tightly restricted by police and private security guards.

When I asked Burger if he agreed with comments we’ve heard from some government officials as well as professionals who have been involved in disaster response that this setup is unusual, he said that this entire operation is run differently because “we are operating under the national contingency plan” which puts the U.S. Coast Guard in charge of the response operation, as well as BP, instead of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

H/T Ed Morrissey.

Coincidence? Not to someone who understands how this White House employs the modern version of Joseph Goebbel’s Big Lie.

Update: This summation of the report says it all:

Pursuant to this review, staff has found numerous instances in which the situation on the ground conflicts with official reports. Of enormous concern, the situation in the Gulf is actually more dysfunctional and dire than what has been portrayed through official reports and press accounts based on official information. This blurring of reality is exacerbating problems with the clean-up effort.

It has all been one big con job.

Update: Findings:

  • Officials on the ground dispute key White House assertions about the number and timeliness of assets deployed in the Gulf. Local officials describe White House outreach efforts as more focused on stopping bad press than on addressing the disaster at hand;
  • The White House’s assurances that there are adequate resources are at odds with the reality on the ground, where those on the frontline of the spill express significant frustration over the lack of assets. Local complaints are supported by the fact that the White House waited until Day 70 of the oil spill to accept critical offers of international assistance. Local workers and boats could have been assisting more with the clean-up if the Federal government had provided them with needed supplies and equipment;
  • While the White House has tried to use the delay in finding a visible leak to explain its early silence on the oil spill, Transocean officials and Coast Guard documents from the scene of the oil spill reveal clear and early indications of a substantial oil leak days earlier than White House accounts;
  • The failure of Administration officials to quickly waive laws preventing necessary foreign assets from reaching the Gulf and other regulations are hampering efforts to clean-up and limit damage from the oil spill. Local officials feel the federal government is making the perfect the enemy of the good in cleanup efforts;
  • Local officials strongly dispute President Obama’s insistence that the federal government – and not BP – has been in control since day one. One Coast Guard Admiral told congressional investigators that decisions on the ground are made through a “consensus-based” process with BP. In practice, the Federal Government is not in charge of oil spill response efforts through a command-and-control approach;
  • Local officials strongly believe the President’s call for a drilling moratorium will significantly compound the economic damage caused by the oil spill and will actually increase risk associated with future offshore drilling projects.

Update: The stench of incompetence is even too much for CNN to ignore:

Modern version of an old saying (where’s the beef?): “Where’s the Skimmers?”

    This administration has a track record of lying and corruption. This would fit their profile. Next thing you know, they will be appointing an AFL/CIO guy to be in charge of the NY Fed … oh, wait …

    As soon as crap and tax is passed by the senate, the skimmers will be out there, the Jones Act will be suspended allowing foreign aid, booms will be everywhere and the beaches will be cleaned up. Obama will take charge and take credit when the oil is removed. Meanwhile, the beaches will be cleaned up only on the surface but oil soaked sand will be 12 inches below the surface. Do these idiots in charge of this bogus clean up not realize there is such a thing as the tide? The tide will take out the oil up to the tide mark but beyond that oil will stay there causing who knows how much havoc. All the fish and animals (those left, that is) who procreate in the sand will still die along with their young. This is criminal and Obama deserves to be impeached and removed from office when the republicans take over the house and hopefully the senate. They had better take over the senate. The dim senators will never remove him from office as was proven by the antics of the senate during Billy Jeff’s criminal actions.

  4. BarbaraS says:

    However, this summer is lost on the beaches. Revenue from tourism will probably be all right in ayear or two but many businesses will go down until tourism picks up. The fish industry probably will not recover for ten or moreyears. That means fish prices will be out of sight and the charter fishing will be gone which is what Obama wanted to happen several months ago when he said sport fishing will be abolished. He took drastic measures to insure this, didn’t he? However, oil will be dug from the sand for years. This oil will polute the sands all around. This is all criminal. Digging the oil from the sand only twelve inches is a waste of money and is only cosmetic for show.

    You are missing the point. The issue is not about saving the environment. It is about control. Allowing people to move about freely is bad from the liberal perspective. people need to stay put so that the government can keep track of them. They whole of the environmental movement is actually about control

  6. traceys says:

    Obama has not only lied to us, but he is acting AGAINST the best interests of the United States and its citizens. . His failure of executive leadership in cleaning up the mess in the Gulf has ruined lives, industries and the environment. He is not incompetent, he is obstructionist, and his agenda is no less than the abrogation of the Constitution and the destruction of the United States. If his actions in the first 18 months of his presidency do not constitute treason, bribery or high crimes and misdemeanors I do not know what would.

  7. sherlock says:

    This is also what you get when our self-appointed watchdogs in the media decide that they will just chew on the juicey steak the burglar gives them, and not bark.

    We are going to have to destroy the media to save it, and the only legal and ethical way to do that is to:
    1. Ignore them, or assume they are lying about everything.
    2. Boycott their advertisers’ products (GE first and foremost).
    3. Never speak to any journalist without recording the encounter, and telling him or her how much you loathe their profession and employer.
    4. Let your friends know what you are doing, and why.

    Remember, we can get rid of the Dems in Congress this Fall, and the Dems in the White House in a couple of years, but the Dems in the media will ignore our right to the truth until we break them to our will like a wild animal.

    It is about control.

    Nothing further needs to be said; you’ve nailed it right there.

    OT–Off topic–this is about what we were talking about a couple of days ago about Byrd’s West Virginia Senate seat. It appears there’s a movement afoot to have a special election in 2010, and not wait for 2012. I’ll be surprised if the Dem guv allows it, though…

    If the lies are so bad that CNN is starting to pay attention, they are Really, Obviously Bad Lies.

    As for impeachment…the House might well bring charges, but the Senate will never vote for removal. Obama is guaranteed of 34 Dems who will vote for him, even if he publicly helped Osama Bin Laden commit murder on the Washington Mall.

    The real story here connects with the Journolist story. The Propaganda Press has been running interference for Obama. Deliberately, and in a coordinated way. THAT is the story. The whole foundation of the Republic is endangered if the public is being fed one-sided propaganda.

  11. ~AV~ says:

    The crimes committed by Obama are no different than a rapist…

    The rape isn’t as satisfying as the sense of control…

    Therefore we must IMPEACH the Kenyan after the November 2010 elections

    He must suffer the consequences for his crimes!

    The A Whale is in the area but has to be tested before it can be used.

    The EPA has a very low limit of 18ppm for oil discharge from ships.

    Instead of doing the common sense thing and waive that limit may be an issue.

    So it could be that a ship that can pick up 99% of the oil may not meet the requirement for max discharge cap.

    Right now getting 99% would be a bargain if they can do it rather than have it left to continue to shore.

  13. tarpon says:

    A Whale is coming, pelicans everywhere cheer …

    In 1993 Saudi Aramco had a well blowout, they fitted four tankers with the capability of decanting the oily water. Within days the whole oil spill was being sucked up and sent to shore. The ships continued their patrol duty around the well until the leak was finally stopped. Today you can hardly find any evidence there was a well accident. It was a mere two years later no sign.

    Decanting tankers cannot meet the lunacy of the 15 ppm EPA non-sense. If they exceed 99% oil removal, that’s good — What’s better leave all of it or remove 99%. INCOMPETENCE chooses leave it all.

    The 4 Dutch ships we of the same design … Decanting oil skimmer ships. They remain in port for the time being … So tell me this incompetence wasn’t on purpose.

    Instead we watch shrimp boats gyrate … Bureaucratic lunacy, that is what big government brings, misery for all. I always wondered why Kenya and Indonesia had no economy, now I know why.

    A NY City building inspector told me that after the Fed Govt ordered NY City to hire blacks to staff their offices that suddenly documents couldn’t be found. An investigation revealed that when one of them ran across something they didnt’ know how to handle they snuck to the bathroom and flushed the paperwork down a toilet. FACT…Blacks score 15% below all other races on IQ tests, yet social promotion, affirmative action and self esteem programs have convinced them they are as smart as anyone else. What all this means is that Obama is 15% dumber than the last moron we had in office. Jimmy Carter. .

  15. sbd says:

    The only person who has shown to the world how dumb they are is you momdear1 for posting such a racist remark on this blog. FACT, those who just happen to have conversations that are racist in nature are racist.

    FACT, you have read a study and made a conclusion based on your already racist bias.

    White IQ variation by country, Lynn found:

    “He concludes that in Europe, adults in Germany and the Netherlands have the

    highest average IQ at 107, compared with 100 across Britain. The UK is also beaten by Poland (106), Sweden (104), Italy (102), Austria (101) and Switzerland (101).

    But Britons are brighter than people in Belgium (99), Spain (98), Hungary (98), Russia (96), Greece (95), France (94), Romania (94), Turkey (90) and Serbia, which finishes bottom with 89. ”

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=381057&in_page_id=1770&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=Talking%20point&ct=5

    Now it says Romanians and French have an IQ of 94 and Serbians 90, right?

    Now according to the Brookings Insitutte black American IQ increased from 85 to 89-92 since 1972. (Flynn, 2006) Now blacks did not “evolve” that quick and there has not been enough interracial marriage so it is obviously environmental.

    If black IQ is up to 92, assuming similar standard deviation, blacks could be equal in intelligence to some European populations like France or Romanian, both EU countries?

    That would be high enough to have a industrialized Western society.

    And blacks could be more intelligent than people in Serbia who are very white.

    BTW, I was going to actually post on the gulf oil spill topic at hand, but had to respond to this instead. I will post about the BP oil spill another time as the topic is not going away anytime soon, but hopefully remarks like the one above will!!
