White House Admits To Sestak Offer!

Published by at 10:24 am under All General Discussions

Major Update II:

Here is the complete memo, with all its admissions and attempts to ‘every thing we offered Sestak was of no value’ – so why make the offer???  The offer and the desired result are clearly delineated in this passage:

The White House Chief of Staff enlisted the support of former President Bill Clinton who agreed to raise with Congressman Sestak options of service on a Presidential or other Senior Executive Branch Advisory Board. Congressman Sestak declined the suggested alternatives, remaining committed to his Senate candidacy.

It doesn’t get any more damning than this. There was an offer to have him not run. The value of the offer is immaterial. The WH admits THEIR offers failed to have the desired, political result. Talk about incompetent, these guys can’t even spin right. This is an outright admission!

Major Update: Maybe Obama can do that “I am not a crook’ thing Nixon did so well, because the preliminary data dump proves an attempt was made to bribe the congressman out of the race:

The White House wanted to try and offer Sestak an uncompensated advisory board position that would allow him to retain his House seat and use his years of public service to benefit himself and the country.

So they tried to bribe him with a position where he could have more direct influence! Not all bribes require money, they only require personal benefit.  H/T Ed Morrissey

Update: Ed Morrissey has the latest BS – the offer was for an unpaid job??  Who are these people kidding! Something big is about to blow in DC

Addendum: Some of us bloggers are talking about how the media is ignoring Sestakgate, so let me try and set the stage for this stunner:

Think of it. Two democrat presidents conspiring to bribe a US congressman out of a US senate race. Is that not news? Moreover, the sitting president’s spin doctors admit the former president knowingly participated in the act! Who could resist this story? – end update

What is stunning about the news that the White House now is admitting to offering Rep Sestak a job in the administration is how they are trying to show how carefully crafted the effort was, therefore innocent. Sadly for them, all this careful crafting clearly indicates they knew they were doing something felonious:

Senior White House advisers asked former President Bill Clinton to talk to Joe Sestak about whether he was serious about running for Senate, and to feel out whether he’d be open to other alternatives, according to sources familiar with the situation.

But the White House maintains that the Clinton-Sestak discussions were informal, according to the sources. The White House, under pressure to divulge the specifics of its interactions with Sestak, will release a formal statement later today outlining their version of events, including Clinton’s involvement.

According to the sources, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel asked Clinton and his longtime adviser, lawyer Doug Band, to talk to Sestak about the race. It’s unclear right now whether the White House will say that Clinton was asked to suggest specific administration positions for Sestak, whether Clinton floated positions on his own, whether Clinton discussed other options not related to the adminstration, or whether employment even came up at all in the talks.

So, they were ‘informal’ but required the careful hand of a former President and a lawyer??? Who are they kidding? First off, the admit to offering positions. Whether Slick Willie floated a specific position or not is irrelevant. They could have offered Sestak the job of head groundskeeper and the offer would still have been a felony. And that is because the job was in return for a political favor.

This truly is Sestakgate – the act that could take down the presidency. And what about Bill Clinton? He knows damn well he was enabling an illegal action. He was a conspirator acting in the felony! He’s in a ton of hot water right now, and it seems team Obama has put him out to dry!

[…] The media and the Left are now terribly upset (especially the media) because they’re not enjoying luxurious Progressive suites with view windows and private decks.  Instead, they’ve found themselves banished to steerage on the U.S.S. Obama.  The quarters are pathetic, the captain refuses to dine with them, and the ship’s crew is ineffectual and often corrupt. […]

This may be Clinton’s revenge on Obama – he’ll cut a deal with prosecutors (or with Congress after the Republicans take over after November) for his cooperation and hang Obama out to dry… leaving the field for Hillary to run against Obama in the primaries again in 2012.

He IS that devious, he IS smart enough to know it was a crime.

Clinton and Obama had a private lunch at the White House. Would have loved to been a fly on the wall for that session.

Nothing will come of this. This is going to be just like Blumenthal’s revelation of faking his Vietnam claims, Democrats couldn’t care less about this stuff. Notice how Blumenthal is back on top of the polls? Connecticut dems don’t care, just like they won’t care about this.

And because of that, men like Obama, Blumenthal, and Clinton know that they can do all this stuff right out in the open, shove it in our faces, and laugh about it. They don’t care, and their supporters don’t care.

It may finally be sinking in that this is not just a series of bad decisions by “good” people – this is a deeply, deeply evil regime, evil to it’s very core, a regime that is dedicated to the destruction of this country and to every one of its institutions.

And as long as this regime stands, there will be no – there CAN be no Justice.

Carrying this over here from the previous Sestak thread:

WWS: The only reason that I think it’s probable that no one here will be blamed for spaceplane accidents is that all of the spaceplanes in the future will be Chinese. For all the happy talk, America is now out of the space business for good – or at least for the rest of our lifetimes, certainly. That’s the real meaning of the Constellation cancellation – and it fits in with Obama’s decision making perfectly. Whenever a difficult choice must be faced – the choice is always to do nothing at all.

There will be a moon colony someday, and maybe even a martian colony – but the flags above those outposts will be Chinese, not American.

    My response:

First, it is a shame that the supporters of Obama’s plan do not see the forest for the trees…Obama’s ultimate goal. There are many issues with full complete private manned spacecraft are but not limited to: 1) Liability. 2) Two-fault tolerance. 3) Self-sustaining profits. 4) Some companies’ line of business is spacecraft and nothing else. 5) Affordability of spacecraft tickets. 6) Federal government will have to pay millions per person and logistic supplies to the private companies.

So I think you’re right because there is no way that these companies can last and go bankrupt.

I heard yesterday two things of interest: 1) Space X has a rocket at a launch pad at the Cape but only in the Air Force portion. Not at any one of the NASA launch pads. Air Force won’t allow Space X to launch its rocket (which it has a shell Dragon vehicle) because it does not have a destruct mechanism in case of a failed rocket launch towards a heavily populated area. 2) Space X has already stated that they do not need NASA’s Launch Control Center, which means that the JSC Mission Control Center will not be supporting any commercial spacecraft missions. Only limited to ISS and docking of these spacecrafts. JSC MCC will be diminished to a very small role. KSC will also be either diminished or eliminated.

Regardless, Obama plans to allocate funds to renovate KSC’s Launch Control Center, 40 million dollars for this stupid panel to figure out ways to help keep the Cape’s economy going, and fund the new commercial astronaut office at the Cape.

I talked to a few here in Clear Lake and many of them are questioning why Obama is spending all kinds of money elsewhere for nothing (no real output/products) and “no” money for NASA (unmanned space is getting more money…for what?).

Human space flight is gone. Unmanned space flight may be next.

As for Bill Clinton, WH’s deflection of blame to Bill Clinton as an outside third party doesn’t exactly eliminate the blame on WH. IF WH asked Bill Clinton, the blame IS on WH.

  9. Highlander says:

This story certainly has the potential to do serious harm to the Obama presidency – certainly to any hopes he has for a second term. But, the legs on this are still seriously limited by Democrat control of Congress and the MSM. There are still far too many people who rely solely on the MSM for their news. And Democrat voters have proven themselves willing to accept virtually any misdeed so long as the miscreant has the right politics and a reasonably good chance at beating whomever the Republicans offer as an alternative. They are that jaded. Millions of others have grown so cynical about politics that they barely pay any attention to it at all.

I remember well the exasperation I felt at trying to make my more liberal (and less political) friends and associates understand that Bill Clinton’s crimes were not the norm, that we should expect more of our President – and indeed all elected officials. My words fell on deaf ears.

It would be a mistake for his opponents to put all their eggs in this one basket – but it would be equally in error not to pursue this vein as far as it takes them. The key for Republicans will be in knowing when to either let it drop, or push it hard.

Like Ted Kennedy and his Chappiquidick accident? He kept getting re-elected.

    Mollohan?

    Murtha?

    Melendrez?

    And more.

They all kept getting re-elected by the morons.

So, the situation as of today:
-Clinton has Obama by his balls
-Obama has his balls in Clinton’s hand (yuck)
-Sestak has also a lot of power over Obama if the story is false, which is very likely, at least in regards of the job offered….
So, how is this gonna play out?
It depends on the hapless repubics…

  12. lurker9876 says:

I wonder if Bill Clinton got something from Obama to help Hillary’s career or resolve some of her campaign debts or something about 2012?

  13. Wilbur Post says:

I gotta think at some point this hits a critical mass. The stink of corruption started on Day 1 with the messes involving his old pals Blago and Rezko. Look at all that’s gone down since then: the wasteful expensive stimulus, the crappy healthcare reform fraud circus, the passive attitude towards repeated terrorist attacks, etc, etc. At some point, almost everyone will have had enough. At some point, the incompetence and corruption become so blatant and destructive that even the Democlowns and the MSM can’t ignore it. As clueless as they both appear at times, they realize that if Obama’s fecklessness sends the country into a death spiral, their asses are going down in flames as well as ours. That realization may help to focus even the most beclouded minds. When we reach that crossroads, ANY excuse will be enough to get rid of the empty suit. I think we are getting close.
