Who Won The Debate On Obamacare Last Night?

Published by at 10:41 am under 2010 Elections,All General Discussions,Obamacare

As we wake up this morning after President Obama’s last ditch effort to salvage his health care overhaul initiative, we have three entities arising as figureheads of the debate. The first is, of course, President Obama and his liberal DC congressional leaders. The second is the GOP and their very concise and respectable response (one of the best I have seen in years). The surprise third player in this political drama is Rep Joe Wilson – who just couldn’t take the waves of spin coming from the bully pulpit anymore and had a human reaction akin to vomiting.

So who won last night?

(1) President Obama

(2) The GOP per their response

(3) Joe Wilson who almost caused a Town Hall to break out in the People’s House.

My pick is Joe Wilson, who voiced the complete frustration with the BS coming out of DC these days. The networks and Democrats are elevating him to equal status (just as the President was able to elevate Governor Palin and her comments to be his equal, his opponent on message control). Joe Wilson’s spontaneous outburst probably reflected the sentiments of a majority of Americans, who no doubt were having outbursts of their own at the their TV sets.

If Wilson wins the debate by connecting the strongest with America, then the Dems better learn some deep humility and start listening if they wish to survive politically.

It’s hardly worth the effort to go through and count the number of lies (since he’s so enamored of the term) that Conman made in his screechy, whiny post.

Start with the claim that this has “never happened before!!! harrumph, harrumph!!!” Let’s just forget about how the Dem’s acted during Bush’s 2005 speech. Oh, well, like I said, too many lies to bother counting them.

And the pseudo-sexual infatuation he had with the UK health system is just weird. Can’t say I’ll miss anything by not having his nonsense around anymore.

    AJ,

That is so classic! You applaud a person for calling the President of the United States a lair during a formal address to Congress, but you get your panties all in a bunch because someone calls you a lair on your blog. It reminded me of my conversation the other night with my 4 year old daughter who called her sister a name and then got upset when her sister called her a name back.

Not only are you a lair, but I can officially say that you are also hypocritical and thin-skinned. You lob insults and make disparaging comments about people every day on this blog, including personal comments about those people who comment on your blog, but you just cannot handle it when someone does it back to you. If you can’t handle the same type of criticism that you dish out, then you ought to try something different.

So go ahead and kick me off your blog.

When was this section added to the House bill? I didn’t see that in there a couple of weeks ago:

2 SEC. 246. NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED
    3 ALIENS.
4 Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments
5 for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are
6 not lawfully present in the United States.
    7

So at least “affordability credits” wont be given to illegals but before, the only part that mentioned non-resident aliens was the part that said they would not be taxed for not having coverage (page 167 Section 59B, subsection a describes the tax and page 170 says that subsection a doesn’t apply to non-resident aliens).

Here’s a report I found on the current wording of the house bill, crosspatch. (although it doesn’t directly answer your question as to when) It looks to me that, like the rest of this bill, the rules covering illegal aliens are an incoherent mess that don’t make much sense yet. For instance, there is the sec 246 wording you copied above – and yet there is *no* language mandating any citizenship verification procedure in the bill. (So anyone who says that they are a citizen becomes one for the purpose of this bill?) Also, as written, the bill would *require* even illegal aliens to purchase health care – and yet it is completely silent about the fact that this would be virtually impossible to enforce for anyone who isn’t filing returns with the IRS. (the documentary Black Marketeer’s are already licking their lips)

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/27/health.care.immigrants/

“It boils down to terminology. Those living in the country illegally are classified as such under immigration law, but the bill uses tax law terms that identify foreigners as either resident or nonresident aliens.

Nonresident aliens would be exempt from the required coverage, but undocumented immigrants who live in the United States for a certain amount of time during the year would be classified as residents. “Thus, it would appear that unauthorized aliens who meet the substantial presence test would be required under HR 3200 to have health insurance,” the report says.

It was less clear, however, how the mandate would be enforced for people, immigrants or not, who do not file federal income taxes.”

All in all, it looks like there are so many flaws and inconsistencies in this bill that one can justify saying almost anything one wants about it.

Rep. Wilson Outburst Leads Senate Dems to Close Loophole in Health Reform Bill

In the Senate, Democrats in the so called “Gang of Six,” began moving quickly to close the loophole Rep. Joe Wilson helped bring to light with his outburst during President Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday night.

“The Congressional Research Service has indicated that indeed the bills that are before Congress would include illegal aliens,” Wilson said. “And I think this is wrong.”

Indeed, the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service study found that the House health care bill does not restrict illegal immigrants from receiving health care coverage.

I thought Obama sounded bitter and petty and whiney.

As for Wilson…well he was right, Obama is a liar.

And you know what? After years of watching the Democrats treat Bush as if he were a criminal, it is almost unbelievable to listen to them feign outrage because Joe Wilson stood up and said what millions of Americans are thinking.

  7. Terrye says:

    conman:

Stark from California called Bush a liar and claimed he sent people to Iraq to get killed for his own amusement and the Democrats thought that was fine.

    You people sound like hypocrites.

The truth is first they say there is no death panel, and then they get rid of the death panel…then they say there is no way for illegals to get government health care, and then they close the loophole allowing illegals to get government health care.

    Liars.

  8. AJStrata says:

    Frogg1,

Yeah, it is hard to spin Wilson’s claims as wrong when it drives the Senate dems to take action!

    Wilson has been vindicated.

  9. […] As reader Frogg1 notes, the Senate Democrats scrambled to fix the loop holes in their bill to ensure illegal aliens could not get government subsidized (or rationed) health care. The liberal media shills can post and write whatever they want about Smokin’ Joe – but the fact he forced the Senate to make their bill ban illegal aliens from the government trough means he has been vindicated. AJ,
Please do not kick conman off your blog. I really enjoy his rants. It reminds me of how vacuous the left’s arguments are.

  11. KauaiBoy says:

Keep all the scumbags off for at least today. They have no place in any debates on this day and have long ago lost the priviledge of being heard. Anyway there is no reason to read anything after you see the author—-why punish yourself and waste the emotion or braincells by reading further.

  12. lurker9876 says:

I have a hard time reading conman’s posts as his posts are filled with lies.

    So I skip his posts.
And I spend my time pushing back liberals like conman at other websites. It is enough for me.

Agree with Kaui. Conman lost after Wilson got vindicated.

  13. AJStrata says:

    Sorry Alert,

But calling me a liar has its consequences.

  14. BarbaraS says:

All this stuff they are amending now will be added back in committee. They will blackmail or threaten the blue dogs into voting for it and Obama has ordered…ordered… 16 senators to the WH yesterday. How is it that the executive can order the legislative to do anything. This is a topsy turvey world. These senators are all in unsafe states and it would be political suicide to vote for this boondoggle. He will probably try to enforce his will on them. He is a true thug from Chicago.

I saw the State of the Union in 2005 and was appalled at the disgraceful manner in which the democrats acted. It is so hypocritical of them to talk about sanctioning Wilson when their behavior was so much worse. This talk of honoring the building is so much hogwash. The democrats have undermined the respect Americans have had for the halls of Washington years ago.

As for Wilson apologising I wish he had not done it. I would much rather he defied the republican leadership and refused. This leadership is turning the other cheek so much their heads are spinning. I thought the dem mantra was “speak truth to power” or “dissent is the highest form of patriotism”. This is just another “do as I say not as I do” monment for the democrats.
