The Slaughter Of America’s Democratic Republic
We all know liberals hold our nation in low esteem. But when this distaste for all things America is combined with their obsessive delusions of grandeur, we are learning these people will destroy anything in their path to prove their disastrous schemes (we are way beyond ‘risky’) are actually mana from Heaven!
Today we have the latest scheme to pass their government take over and destruction of our private health care – just dictate it from the House without any actual vote.
The Slaughter Solution is a plan by Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), the Democratic chair of the powerful House Rules Committee and a key ally of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), to get the health care legislation through the House without an actual vote on the Senate-passed health care bill. You see, Democratic leaders currently lack the votes needed to pass the Senate health care bill through the House. Under Slaughter’s scheme, Democratic leaders will overcome this problem by simply “deeming†the Senate bill passed in the House – without an actual vote by members of the House.
An article in this morning’s edition of National Journal’s CongressDaily breaks the story, starting with the headline: “SLAUGHTER PREPS RULE TO AVOID DIRECT VOTE ON SENATE BILL.â€Â Excerpts:
House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.
Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.
The good news is we now know Obamacare is dead on arrival because it will never pass constitutional muster. Even if the Dems shop some federal courts, the people in enough states will rise up in revolt. The liberals want to go all out – they are about to learn what ‘all out’ means. They have not realized Americas revulsion of government rationed health care is stronger than their doe-eyed groupie love for it.
But one thing is becoming clear to Americans, they will need to eject these corrupt, power-mad people as soon as possible. If the Democrats are crazy enough to jettison our constitution and our democracy (irony: Democrats corrupted to the point they kill their namesake) then Americans will have open to them a slew of legal and political avenues. I cannot fathom what 100’s of millions of creative and angry minds will devise in response to liberal madness – but by going to the “Slaughter” rule democrats have opened the flood gates.
America is in for a rough ride this year, but it will be a cleansing ride. I just hope we keep it civil and legal. More over at Powerline. Also, Jim Geraghty has some amazing polling data on how abysmal Obamacare in the minds of independents and swing voters.
Update: Here is more on the ‘rule’ congress has used to avoid being responsible and on the record for their votes in the past – and which is being used to totally bypass the Constitution in this Congress. Count me in the revolution if this goes down this ugly.
I am no constitutional expert, but I think the Congress and the Senate can create their own rules. But I am not sure if this scheme goes beyond a “rule”.
In any case it fully exposes the fascist mindset of progressives/liberals/marxists posing as dems.
Hence the name I gave them: DEMSHEVIKS.
This is just crazy. If they think people are unhappy, doing this will not help. I know they think Americans love free stuff and so all they have to do is doll out some goodies and we will roll over, but I am not so sure about that. Our monthy deficits are larger than a our yearly deficits were a few years ago. This has to stop.

I am not so sure either, but I do think that a lot of those socalled rules still have to get past the 60 vote margin to be enacted.
If this is just a ruse to get Stupak on board, I am not so sure he or anyone else will fall for it.
Everyday it is something else with these people.

Paul Ryan has just explained what the next House move will be starting next Monday.
And they’re rewriting the bills again???? Mostly a shell bill with hopes that they could get 216 votes????
HotAir seems to think that Stupak bloc is no longer holding up the House vote; therefore, Ed Morrissey now wonders if the House has enough votes by next week. The question is how the Blue Dogs will vote.
So they know that had they delayed the vote until after Easter recess, they’ll never get the votes so why would they want the votes NOW?????
I listened to Mark Levin, in discussion with a constitutional attorney, and it looks like the “Slaughter stuff” is unconstitutional and the congress members who promote it should be expelled from the Congress.
If the bill passes like this, we may have a constitutional crisis in this country.
You can imagine how divisive this is and will be.
The “blood”, figuratively speaking, will be on Obama and the demsheviks’ hands.
This kind of maneuver is just so simply and clearly illegal that it is breathtaking. This seems to me to beyond the pale even for demonrats.
If they use this tactic it would also mean that Obama could make law by decree in that the house and senate would have through cowardice given up their right to craft and vote legislation. He only needs a few people in leadership positions to make anything law.
Honestly, and I am choosing words carefully here to stay within the law. If the congress thinks it can simply ignore the Constitution then it would appear that the citizens could ignore the law as well, the slaughter option indeed.
They say the Parliamentarian has come out and ruled against the Democrats on this. They have to pass the Reid bill, as is. I wonder what that will mean to the process?

dbostan, I’ve been thinking overnight, and it’s worse than that – at least in the short run.
Pelosi and Waxman have apparently told Stupak and his 12 votes to go stuff themselves, they don’t need their votes and won’t try to get them. From the Dem’s point of view, that is absolute insanity, any way you look at it. First, it probably guarantees that the bill fails, but what if it passes – they have just told every pro-life dem in the country (yes, there are quite a few) that they need to switch parties. It’s political suicide either way, and they don’t care.
Even dictators are rational enough to want to stay in power. The dem leadership has turned into a bunch of political suicide bombers who are throwing themselves (and the country) into a deliberate path of self destruction.
My only guess is that they think their “Base” (Kos, DU) will come out and vote for them if at least they go down fighting, and that the fight is more important than the result. That’s idiocy – real leaders all the way back to Sun Tzu have taught that you never charge into a battle unless you know the outcome before it begins. But they don’t care.
I think political students will spend the next 100 years writing studies on how a party given complete power could so deliberately commit suicide in 24 months. They will need to focus on how intentional it was.

The demshevik leadership knows exactly that the gain will in the long run, by creating a new entitlement that will enslave all of us. They are more than willing to lose in the short run.

I am not in favor or term limits. I don’t believe that government should make rules to protect people from their own stupidity. I do have some suggestions, though.
1. Eliminate Congressional pensions … completely. One should have been successful at something other than running for office.
2. Eliminate “winner take all” presidential primaries and split delegates according to popular vote.
3. Eliminate “winner take all” electoral votes per state for presidential elections. Winner of the state gets 2 electoral votes for carrying the state and each candidate gets an electoral vote according to each house district carried by that candidate.
4. Return at least a portion of the states’ check on federal government. Have only one Senator popularly elected and the other appointed by the legislature. That only half undoes the 17th ammendment.
Only option 4 requires any constitutional changes. Option 1 would probably see that political careers in Washington are short.
