GOP Destroyed Either Way? Why Not Just Win Then?

Published by at 12:34 pm under All General Discussions,Illegal Immigration

I had pointed out that the amnesty-hypochondriacs (they swear they are not immigration hypochondriacs – fair enough) were destroying the GOP by claiming all common ground with Bush (one of the best conservative Presidents we have had in this country) and other conservatives (Kyl, Graham, Martinez, etc) is now gone. I said that their scortched GOP policy would make alliances with these people impossible in the future. Despite their diversionary excuses, what gauls them is the fact the bill is not harsh enough on the illegal immigrants who have been here for years and years. If that piece was out of the bill they would pass any piece of garbage through and declare victory.

Now, with news that the bill is coming back and should be passed, they have ratcheted up their poisonous talk against fellow conservatives (Bush especially) and are saying if the bill passes it is the end of the GOP! Take Michelle Malkin as an example:

Trent Lott and his ilk are on a suicide mission. Will they bring the GOP–and the country–down without a fight?

The cries of ‘wolf’ from the amnesty hypochondriacs is turning on deaf ears. People are getting fatigued by their endless panic and lashing out. As I said before, the bill passed in the 1980’s was screwed up, but did not end the United State of America. We have been a shining city on the hill since the 1980’s with a strong economy, strong defense, and what was a trend towards conservative values. Until the far right went too far. The cries of ‘wolf’ are not ratcheting up energy – they are creating a backlash and cries of ‘chill out’! Check out this piece by another moderate (i.e, calm and rationale) conservative:

There’s another factor that makes much of talk radio feel like an echo chamber, or the “amen corner,” with the same impassioned arguments deployed again and again and again (“What is it about illegal that you don’t understand?,” “If you reward people for breaking the law, you’ll only get more law-breaking,” “It’s unfair to all the patient legal immigrants to let the illegals cut to the front of the line,” “why don’t they just enforce the laws we have, before we make new laws” etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.) Each of the arguments against the bill can be answered, patiently and substantively, but it’s wearying to go through the same points repeatedly when people on all sides of the argument seem so unwilling to listen.

After several weeks of near hysteria, I believe that most Americans have begun to suffer (appropriately) from “immigration fatigue” – or even “immigration exhaustion.” Angry people let off steam by expressing their righteous wrath repeatedly. The rest of us begin to feel fatigued by all the indignation and apocalyptic talk.

The hyperventilating is getting old. The same old questions asked, answered and answers ignored demonstrates the futility of trying to reason with the unreasonable. But here is the kicker. If the GOP is doomed whether the bill passes or not, then why not pass it? I am not appeasing to the far right, I am simply pointing out if it is their way or the highway, then the highway it is. Either way the GOP is screwed we might as well get what we came for. If the far right is unwilling to bend, then there is no reason to bend anymore and just do the right thing. The amnesty hypochondriacs have played this badly despite pleas not to do so. But if they want a test then a test they shall have. When the bill passes and the world does not end and America is still the shining city on the hill we will know. We will know America is much stronger than many on the right give her credit for. And we will know why those who attack their allies fail in the long run.

Yeah, the more I think about it. We should just completely ignore what that group of losers thinks. It isn’t like anybody would take them serious. Right?

I mean President Bush wouldn’t possibly listen to their opinion, even if the VP himself were a member right???

Now you know why he not only listens, he implements.

No Apache it is not the list that is unimportant, it is the paranoia that turns me off.

I think people are making crap up to kill this bill, they are deliberately misrepresenting the facts and creating a situation every bit as screwed up and stupid as we saw with Dubai and its ties to Hamas and all kinds stuff that ended up being pure garbarge.

So, you are saying that any connection between the US and a neighbor is a bad thing? That any attempts as fostering trade and cooperation is part of an evil plan.

I give up, you have made up your mind. I hope you and Rosie are happy together.

Really, I am supposed to believe that Bush and Chertoff and McConnel and Kyl are going to destroy America for what?

Who said anything about “destroy America”?

    Your reading skills suck!!

I said they aren’t inclined to implement the type of border security the American people want to see. And somehow, you managed to hear “destroy America”. Holy cow. How do you do that?

Whatever, so far the only thing you and your friends have accomplished is to make your own party look bad and to make yourself look paranoid.

    WHAT WE SHOULD DO NOW
    • Expand temporary migrant worker programs. Canada and the
United States should expand programs for temporary labor migration
    from Mexico.

The last attempt was cut by use of the arrow symbol. Maybe this one will make it.

    • Implement the Social Security Totalization Agreement
negotiated between the United States andMexico.

If you follow current events, neither of those should be “news” to you.

You don’t think your crappy reading and comprehension skills might play a small in that do you?

Hmm…. you wrote me off as a kook, PRIOR to me mentioning his name??

Are you a psychic?? Got your own 1-900 number yet?

Or perhaps you are/were a wee bit disingenuous?

If someone testifies in front of the Senate, you can’t write them off. If the Senate is paying attention to him, then we should to. We should at least find out what he told them.

But that’s just my theory. You obviously subscribe to a different theory.

    Apache:

I have heard time and again the last few days that Bush is going to sell out America to some strange scary union and when that happens America will never be the same. Time and again I have heard and read it.. My reading skills are just fine. Code words just jump right out of there.

That is the problem. Nothing can ever just be a difference of opinion anymore. Everything is the end of world. Everything is part of a silent conspiracy.

I will admit that there are some people whose posts I do not pay a lot of attention to. But then again after awhile it is just blah blah blah.

So no, it is not my poor reading comprehension, it is remarks about Bush and Chertoff working Silently……..creeeeepy…… and of course it is all amount the almighty dollar…… it could not possibly have anything to do with the fact that they think they are right. You say things like that which are meant to attack the integrity of your opponents and you throw some stuff out there about how strange it is they want to a FREE flow of people….

Puhleaze, you want it both ways.

BTW, I have mentioned those temp programs in Canada myself and they are not so different from the guest worker program which the hardliners are trying to kill when they kill this bill.

No, do not blame my reading comprehension skills because I think you sound paranoid.

Maybe it is just the accumulated nuttiness of it all.

  12. Terrye says:

And besides do you honestly think that when they say they want to see a free flow of goods and people etc, they are talking about day laborers climbing through a border fence?

It could just be that they are talking about trade. That would be the logical conclusion.

Shocking as it may be to some people the United States actually does a great deal of legitimate trade with both of our neighbors. All kinds of products and people cross those borders. We have even have a NAFTA highway. There are some communities which literally sit on the border and depend on that relationship for their existence.

You see, this is what I mean, when you see a phrase like free flow of goods or whatever and you immediately assume that this means people or drugs or just about anything else, legal or illegal coming across the border…well that is absurd.

  13. Terrye says:

Good God Apache all kinds of people testify in front of the Senate. usually the Senators yammer for the cameras and then most of them leave and then someone testifies within a time limit, it can be about anything.

  14. For Enforcement says:

I don’t think we have to worry too much any more, if we ever did, about the bill passing. The Rasmussen poll out today says less than 20% of the people support the bill in any form. Now that seems like about the right amount of people that have a personal stake in the outcome.
Seems like 80% are not in favor of amnesty for all. Seems like 80% don’t think Social Security should be a give away.

I listened to Pres Bush talk about the bill yesterday and I am convinced that he hasn’t read the bill and doesn’t have much of an idea of what is in it.. I say that because he said a lot about securing the border and ANYONE that has read the bill knows it has NO provisions at all about actually securing the borders.

Some will disagree about that, but they don’t have a clue either.

Anyhow, now that people have gotten informed, the number of supporters goes down, down, down and the number of opponents goes up, up, up.

I’m a conservative and I’m going to support conservatives on this. (and that is opposing the bill).

signed Immigration Hypochondriac (another name for those that want laws enforced.

  15. smill1953 says:

…You mean I am willing to fight for what I think is best? You bet. I am as good as anyone else. And there are millions out there, many conservatives, fighting to get this done. So I use rhetoric from the amnesty hypochondriacs to show why they are so wrong. Welcome to politics…

No, I’m just trying to figure out if you’re the pot or the kettle. You accuse the “far right” of being unwilling to bend, so therefore this bill should be crammed down their throat. I’m far from “far right”, but I think you’re being very naive if you think this bill is good for this country.

  16. AJStrata says:

    smill,

It is easy. I want all of the elements of the bill – the hard right refuses to deal with illegals here already. I support their elements. They do not support those of us who want to do something about the hole problem. What compromise is there on my side? I agree more with their parts?

LOL! I ain’t no kettle, and I am not an amnesty hypochondriac. The debate time is over and the GOP is a lost cause.

Lose-Lose – no matter what. Oh well, they had a nice run. It will be years before the moderates will want to trust them again.

  17. Thomas Jefferson says:

“Bush (one of the best conservative Presidents we have had in this country)”

A.J., I signed up to say that your above comment is the single most idiotic remark ever published. Bush is to conservatism what child molestation is to morality.
