Terrorist Attack Was UK Number 1 Threat

Here is an interesting reminder of what the UK intelligence and security people feared most, before Litvinenko took over the headlines (H/T Clarice Feldman):

Tuesday November 14, 2006
The Guardian

British intelligence officials believe that al-Qaida is determined to attack the UK with a nuclear weapon, it emerged yesterday. The announcement, from an officially organised Foreign Office counter-terrorism briefing for the media, was the latest in a series of bleak assessments by senior officials and ministers about the terrorist threat facing Britain.

UK officials have detected “an awful lot of chatter” on jihadi websites expressing the desire to acquire chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons.

Asked whether there was any doubt that al-Qaida was trying to gain the technology to attack the west, including the UK, with a nuclear weapon, a senior Foreign Office counter-terrorism official said: “No doubt at all.”

The official explained: “We know the aspiration is there, we know the attempt to get material is there, we know the attempt to get technology is there.”

Really puts things into perspective – doesn’t it?

What a sobering reminder. And I agree with you that it’s absolutely crucial that intelligence officials and investigators examine Litvinenko’s strange and suspicious death from all angles, even though I generally prefer to see this as a murder.

Not really. Desires, hopes, aspirations. When al Qaeda gets
an army, navy, air force, get back to me, okay AJ?

For some reason (wonder which one? – the easy way out?) the British are blaming Russia:
Intelligence services in Britain are convinced that the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko was authorised by the Russian Federal Security Service.

Security sources have told The Times that the FSB orchestrated a “highly sophisticated plot” and was likely to have used some of its former agents to carry out the operation on the streets of London.

“We know how the FSB operates abroad and, based on the circumstances behind the death of Mr Litvinenko, the FSB has to be the prime suspect,” a source said yesterday.

I heard a former KGB official now in the US say the same thing. And the highest ranking KGB defector in Britain said this as early as Nov 20.

Perhaps that and the forensic investigation is the “some reason” the finger is pointing at Russia.

  5. jerry says:

That must be the guy in Virginia, Shvets, who said he knows who dun it and told the authorities (and also is in hiding until further notice). The article I read didn’t point a finger at the FSB but, hmm, Clarice.

Among the other London locations caught up in the probe was the Parkes Hotel in upmarket Knightsbridge. The Sunday Times newspaper said this was where Lugovoy stayed when he visited London on his first of three trips in October.

ok we have the name of the Hotel from Oct. 16/17

“Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned on the direct orders of the Kremlin because of his biting mockery of President Putin, according to a former Soviet spy now living in Britain.

Oleg Gordievsky, the most senior KGB agent to defect to Britain, said that the attempt to kill Mr Litvinenko had been state-sponsored.”

(From http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-2462023,00.html, the November 20 Times article Clarice linked earlier, “Kremlin gave order to kill dissident and former spy, claims top defector”)

    The Kremlin Pedophile
    By Alexander Litvinenko

A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin walked from the Big Kremlin Palace to his Residence. At one of the Kremlin squares, the president stopped to chat with the tourists. Among them was a boy aged 4 or 5.

‘What is your name?’ Putin asked.

    ‘Nikita,’ the boy replied.

Putin kneed, lifted the boy’s T-shirt and kissed his stomach.

The world public is shocked. Nobody can understand why the Russian president did such a strange thing as kissing the stomach of an unfamiliar small boy.

The explanation may be found if we look carefully at the so-called “blank spots” in Putin’s biography.

After graduating from the Andropov Institute, which prepares officers for the KGB intelligence service, Putin was not accepted into the foreign intelligence. Instead, he was sent to a junior position in KGB Leningrad Directorate. This was a very unusual twist for a career of an Andropov Institute’s graduate with fluent German. Why did that happen with Putin?

Because, shortly before his graduation, his bosses learned that Putin was a pedophile. So say some people who knew Putin as a student at the Institute.

Well, besides the PO, here are some other things putting the bullseye on Lugovi–He was former KGB where he and Litvinenko became friends. The RUssians threw him in jail. When he got out, he became fabulously welathy–ina c ountry where that is possible only if you’re working with Putin and his thugs. Just saying.

these must be the sites they are checking now: Cavendish Place might be the location of the “other security firm” unnamed. Wonder if they are also checking the Chinatown restaurant:

“We met with Litvinenko in the afternoon in Bond Street and went to a meeting at Erinys, the security firm which recently developed an interest in Russia.”

Litvinenko had introduced him to Erinys; its offices were last week found to be contaminated with polonium.

“After the meeting we had lunch at the [Itsu] sushi bar in Piccadilly, a place where Litvinenko liked to go to. Then we parted. On October 17 we met again with Litvinenko in the afternoon. We went together for a meeting at another security firm. After the meeting we went back to the hotel where I had a meeting with an old acquaintance while Litvinenko waited for us downstairs. Then we went for dinner with him in Chinatown.”

Do you suppose they tried three times to kill him and that’s why all that stuff? And that the container(s) used leaked–maybe on purpose to bump off the assassin as well.

  16. crosspatch says:

Holy crap, if “biting mockery” is enough to get the citizen of a foreign country killed I hope Stephen Colbert takes notice.

Enough speculation for me, sounds like the British police have a lot more to go on than I do. All this speculation has given me a headache. Still think Putin is pretty thin skinned if he is going to go around the world killing people who make fun of him.

I did think of the “bump off the assassin” and of at least one previous attempt, some people must just have a higher mistrust tolerance – or maybe that’s why they’re running around killing each other!

Better question. WHO turned this scheme into a backfire for those “holding the goods?”

In other words, there was a “gathering” over a period of time, for this particular plot to reach fruition. One of the carriers, now buried as a muslim, is DEAD. Seems like a BAD GUY went wrong. And, he involved a host of PR people, to cover up the Russian blackmarketeers. Who are scared out of their skulls that they’ve been exposed to a substance “that leads to cancer.”

Anyway, we hear this stuff was INHALED. So, perhaps, the vials didn’t contain liquid? But they contained “powder.” Let’s say it would look like MSG. And, when it spilled someone went out and borrowed a vacuum cleaner? THE ONE THE MAID ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOTEL USES? Only THEY opened the bag. And, breathed in the “substance.”

Were they cleverer than that? Did they go out and buy a small vac? Would this purchase be at any store that’s name is now known inside Scotland Yard?

So there’s either McGuffin’s in place. To put the media off running in one direction. Why not Russia? It works in the movies. (Where we haven’t seen a muslim bad guy, yet.)

Putin is made to sweat. What’s the problem?

(There’s an e.coli breakout in New Jersey. Taco Bells. From November 17th to November 28th. And, the company is complying. Again? The victims are KIDS. (Are adults exposed to this stuff already vaccinated through their own systems?)

    We are at the BEGINNING.

But what happens when people really freak out? Ahead.

Let alone all these Russian Mafia Oligarchs? Did you know they’re Jewish ONLY as a ticket to get out of Russia. During a period of THAW? Back when Gorby was da’ boss. NONE OF THESE MEN ARE CIRCUMCISED. And, they not only don’t practice; in Israel they don’t even try to speak Hebrew. (Yeah. There are a lot of Russians! Maybe, quite a headache? I do not know. Because Amir Peretz collects them and has them as his voters.) But the links are poor. And, some with money do funny stuff, as well. ONE? Went into Sderot, and offered to bus people to Elat. Drove Olmert and Amir Peretz nuts. But living in Sderot (which Amir Peretz does), is NOT A PICNIC.

Just in case the picture isn’t complicated enough. It is very, very complicated. And, the future victims, like Beslan, will be children.

UNTIL WE TACKLE THE SAUDIs. Got any ideas on how to put them out of business? All roads of Al-Qaeda leads to the Saudis.
