A Time Of Trouble, America Still Looks To Bush

The latest CBNews poll out has some interesting numbers that confirm the impression I have had recently that the UK Airline Bomb plot, which impacted millions of people travelling that day and still echoes to this day in recently enacted travel restrictions, has changed the dynamics heading into this fall’s elections. With a rush, reality broke into our national summer break and reminded us we are still under threat from a shadowy enemy. The left in this country is also apprently separating itself from the mainstream regarding the war on terror and what we should be doing. Some numbers to ponder:

Fifty-four percent of Americans say they generally feel safe, but 46 percent say they feel somewhat uneasy or in danger.

By a four-to-one margin (48 percent to 12 percent), Americans think the war in Iraq has made the threat of terrorism against the United States worse rather than better.

On the face of this it would seem we have a serious problem. But this is part propaganda piece by CBSNews. 48 percent think Iraq has made us less safe (but of course, what do you expect when you rattle the hornets nest?). 12 percent think we are more safe – and therefore 40 percent don’t think it has made any difference. So 52-48 is the proper comparison when looking at who is reacting negatively to the Iraq war, not 12-48. More numbers:

More also say the threat of terrorism has grown since 9/11 than said so a year ago. Forty-one percent say the threat has increased since the attacks, an 11 percent jump from last year. Just 14 percent say the threat has decreased, while 43 percent say the threat has not changed.

These numbers are more honest. 41% (basically the far left of the political spectrum) says things are worse, 54% believe it is the same or better.

Nearly one in four people say they still feel nervous and edgy. Women are more likely than men to say their behavior has been affected.

This means 75% are not edgy, 25% are. Why not say “by a margin of 3 to 1, people are not edgy”??? Again, the presentation of the numbers is trying to push a biased view. So, how many quitters are there in the population? How many cut and runners who feel all is lost and we should give up?

There’s also increased pessimism about the overall war on terrorism, with 21 percent — the highest number ever — saying the terrorists are winning. Thirty-six percent say the United States is winning and 38 percent say neither side is winning.

Only one in five! 74% believe we are holding our own or winning (helps when you have thwarted attacks for 5 years running). The doom and gloom far left are a serious minority here. They may be loud (not to mention pushy and arrogant), but they are a small, small group which could simply repulse the rest of the country in their deatism (didn’t I hear Frist called the Democrats the Deafistscrats or something?). Here’s another one

About half of those polled say Bush administration policies have made America safer, but one in four say they’ve made the United States less safe. A similar number say they’ve had no effect.

25% against Bush policies, 75% neutral or for the policies

Still, a majority of Americans, 55 percent, say they approve of how President Bush is handling the war on terror — his highest rating in more than a year, but a sharp decrease from December 2001, when 90 percent approved.

Talk about your grasping to make things look bad. No one expected the 90% number to hold after 9-11! But let’s be clear here – it was the left that bailed on this President. It was liberals who resisted dealing with Al Qaeda and the Taliban after 9-11. It was the far left which seized upon wild-eyed conspiracy theories that Bush let the attack happen. It was Democrats who tried to blame Bush for Al Qaeda’s attack on 9-11 (even though many of the terrorists reached our shores under Clinton’s watch). It was Democrats who turned partisan and tried to undermine this President. They fought the Patriot Act (which simply elevates terrorists to the same criminal status as organized crime bosses and drug lords!). Liberals gleefully exposed the NSA terrorist surveillance program and Treasury’s program to monitor terrorist financial transactions OVERSEAS (admitting the latter program was legal and productive in the process of exposing it). Liberals and Dems even made up lies about forged documents being used by the administration to lie us into Iraq.

Why is the support for our efforts on terrorism now 55-45? Because liberals and too many Democrats put winning elections above national security. There is no place for unity on any subject with the left as long as they are in the minority. They have no sense of honor or duty to the general good. They want their world view to dominate and they will go to any lengths to make it happen. Given the propensity for this poll to be one of the farthest left leaning polls out there, the news for the Dems is probably worse than it appears here.

Unfortunately, a large portion of America is not composed of rational, objective thinkers like yourself and accept those slanted statements without analysis. Must be that physical science/math background that you probably share with most of your coworkers. Imagine being a physical science major trapped with fuzzy thinking education majors (the majority anyway) for 30+ years! They just don’t process info the same way.

Leaked CIA reports have said the US occupation of Iraq fuels the worldwide insurgency making America less safe.
