Adult Stem Cell Treatments Flourish, While Embryonic Stem Cell Research Goes Nowhere

Published by at 9:49 am under All General Discussions,Stem Cell Debate

Embryonic Stem Cell Research is another over-hyped activity that has never produced a single cure or therapy.  In fact, because of the complexities involved in controlling the human genetic code the idea of turning on and off the genes like switches on a board to make a cure was always a fantasy fed to the gullible by those too cruel to be honest.  The humane genetic code is made up of tens of thousands of instructions which must be executed in the proper sequence, in the proper mix of biochemical conditions (and there are hundreds of biochemicals, any of which can trigger the genes to execute in a needed manner or execute abnormally), where the steps must be perfectly timed to produce enough of the product required to move on to the next step – but not too much or too little or the process can again careen out of control. The following image is a snapshot of a segment of the genome:

And here is a representation of all the human chromosomes which contain the genes and base sequences (follow the link for to expand the image by clicking on the image):

It is because this process is so complicated and has so many variables that it will take decades to unravel and control.  This fact has been known from the inception of the Embryonic Stem Cell Research, it has simply been covered up and replaced with outright lies to the American public.  John Edwards, in the 2004 presidential campaign, uttered the grossest and most foul of these lies – which Dr. Charles Krautheimer responded to (being someone tied to a wheelchair due to spinal chord damage):

This is John Edwards on Monday at a rally in Newton, Iowa: “If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk, get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.”

In my 25 years in Washington, I have never seen a more loathsome display of demagoguery. Hope is good. False hope is bad. Deliberately, for personal gain, raising false hope in the catastrophically afflicted is despicable.

Where does one begin to deconstruct this outrage?

First, the inability of the human spinal cord to regenerate is one of the great mysteries of biology. The answer is not remotely around the corner. It could take a generation to unravel. To imply, as Edwards did, that it is imminent if only you elect the right politicians is scandalous.

Actually, to promise cures if America would just allow factories of young humans to be legal, where they would be sacrificed for the spare parts, is also scandalous.  So far, the private houses of scientific mutilation of young humans have only produced cancers and tumors and other horrible results.  The real version of The Matrix (where humans are a resource for the living) has produced nothing of value. But they keep sacrificing young humans in the hopes of success (which brings fame and money with it).

The competition of ideas (and morals it seems) in America against the snake oil of Embryonic Stem Cells is Adult Stem Cell Research. And here we see a world of difference. Adult Stem Cells are found all over the body, and contain the patient’s genetic sequences, which makes treatment less likely to have rejection or integration problems due to incompatible genes. But more over, these cells have passed through much of the sequencing already and are partially transformed into usable replacement cells. Part of the puzzle is already solved!

Therefore, Adult Stem Cell Research is blazing forward with therapies for an immense spectrum of ailments. Occasionally I post on some of the breakthroughs, and today it seemed time to do so again. So here (in no particular order) is what has hit the news recently on Adult Stem Cell based cures and therapies, while those killing embryos are still trying to, literally, break the code.

Scientists have been able to activate brain stem cells recently through the use of Adult Stem Cell therapies:

Scientists at Schepens Eye Research Institute have identified specific molecules in the brain that are responsible for awakening and putting to sleep brain stem cells, which, when activated, can transform into neurons (nerve cells) and repair damaged brain tissue. Their findings were recently published online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAS).

Chen believes that tapping the brain’s dormant, but intrinsic, ability to regenerate itself is the best hope for people suffering from brain-ravaging diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease or traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries.

And no humans need to be killed in the procedure. This next story combines the news from above with another breakthrough for brain related injuries and diseases:

Meanwhile, researchers at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, harvested adult stem cells from the noses of Parkinson’s patients and injected them into the brains of rats that had symptoms similar to Parkinson’s.

Researchers had induced the rats’ symptoms by creating lesions on their brains, which made them run in circles. After nose stem cells were introduced, however, the rats eventually stopped running in circles and tests revealed the presence of dopamine in their brains, which researchers said was brought on by the stem cells.

Even saved a few mice in that study. Here is a story related to stem cell therapies for congestive heart failure:

Mesoblast (ASX: MSB) will soon launch phase II trials into congestive heart failure, the company said.

The trials will be conducted by its US-based sister company Angioblast Systems.

The US FDA recently granted the companies permission to perform clinical trials using its adult stem cell-based treatment.

45 clients suffering from congestive heart failure will be given allogeneic stem cells, while 15 will be given a placebo.

The stem cells will be injected directly into the patients’ hearts through a cardiac catheter.

Clinical trials on human patients. Seems like this research is curing patients, not killing humans for spare parts. Imagine that! Question: would have voting Kerry-Edwards diverted needed funds from the Adult Stem Cell Research to the snake oil of Embryonic Stem Cell Research? Probably so, which means it is good for all those who will benefit from these efforts that Kerry lost.

This story is amazing, using Adult Stem Cells from children (the ‘adult’ misnomer must be because embryo’s are not humans and you couldn’t say ‘child’ stem cells, or ‘baby’ stem cells without worrying the PC crowd in the liberal media) to correct curved spines:

Using adult stem cells collected from bone marrow, doctors are now able to correct scoliosis of the spine. During surgery, doctors still use screws and rods to correct the curvature of the spine. After that step, however, harvesting bone from a patient’s pelvis is no longer necessary. Doctors can use the stem cells and bone from the bone bank to create solid fusion along the vertebrae to hold the corrected spine in its new position. Once fusion is solid, patients can return to normal activities. Recovery time is similar to traditional spinal fusion surgery because the same large incision is made in the patient’s back. However, the pain from the pelvic bone is eliminated. Some doctors see this stem cell therapy as a more holistic approach to the healing process.

And finally a related article on how bone repair is augmented using Adult Stem Cell Therapies:

Enzyme induces adult stem cells to grow bone. Until now it has been difficult to induce adult human stem cells to produce bone, e.g. in order to repair bone tissue. Researchers at the University of Twente have just shown that if the enzyme PKA is previously activated in the stem cells in the lab, following implantation this results in substantial bone formation. This opens up new ways of repairing bone tissue using cell material from the patient.

So, why is this clear dichotomy between the results of the ever-heralded (and so far useless) Embryonic Stem Cell research and that of the ever expanding and successful Adult Stem Cell field not headline news? Simple, the liberal news media never had the intellect to understand the subject, let alone the intellect to realize how badly they blew it by trying to pick one solution over the other. So it is up to Americans to spread the word that the media screwed up. Remember, the politicians aren’t qualified to make a judgement any more than the media, but the results are in and the winner is (and always will be) Adult Stem Cell Therapies. People just need to know the facts – and the right decisions will come forth.

Let’s put our money to best use, where we know there will be results and successes, shall we?
