Stunning NY Presidential Polls

The Democrats cannot afford to have to fight McCain in New York, but some new polls out show they would have to do just that:

When matched head to head against John McCain, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are in a surprisingly close race in New York. Clinton receives support from 48% of the state’s voters compared with 46% for McCain. Obama receives support from 46% of New York’s voters compared with 48% for McCain.

Clinton’s numbers are really surprising, but since the conventional wisdom is she won’t win the Dem nomination the incredibly good news for McCain is he has Obama in a fight right now. The home of ground zero may not be so open to surrendering to al-Qaeda so it can regroup and gain the breathing space to hit us again. Obama’s naiveté in national security would only worsen these early numbers, which normally would show the GOP candidate hopelessly behind.

McCain has TX and FL pretty much in his pocket. If he can get NY he is in. This shows the damage the Dems continue to inflict on themselves both with the cross sniping and their ‘defeat at any cost’ positions as they cater to the far left. H/T RCP

Heh – this is off-topic for this post, but Dan Rather today just saw his lawsuit against CBS eviscerated. This is the suit that weirdly claimed that CBS was in collusion with the Bush administration to make him look bad, or something like that. (no, the claims never did make any sense)

Although the suit wasn’t dismissed entirely,

“A lawyer for the defendants, lead outside counsel James Quinn, said: “We are very pleased with this. The rest is what we consider a garden-variety contract dispute.” Quinn told CBS News’ legal analyst Andrew Cohen that the contract issue left relates to “Whether or not we “benched” him and whether he had sufficient time on 60 Minutes and 60 Minutes II after he stepped down as the anchorperson.”

There was also a link to an audio interview with Quinn in which he stated that he believes the rest of case will be dismissed in summary judgment in a few months.

Maybe Rather can get Katie Couric to cover some of his legal costs?
    😉

    AJ,
How are the numbers on California? Does McCain even have a shot out there?
