Another MI Prediction Comes True

Published by at 8:41 am under 2008 Elections,All General Discussions

Wow, got a twofer today. First I predicted a Romney win, but I also predicted a Clinton surprise even though she was the only one on the ballot – and I was spot on. Here is what I said yesterday:

Michigan’s row over their primary date means Clinton is the only name on the ballot. What would be wild would be to see another voter revolt of some kind like a write in campaign. I am sure Michigan dems are angry they have no choices on the ballot. Maybe Hillary loses to a no name? I am not sure but I think electorate is in the mood to send bold messages to the pols.

A dreary eyed prediction in the early morning to be sure. But what is interesting is this voter surprise for Hillary as reported by CNN today:

Hillary Clinton faced a grim statistic in Michigan tonight, despite her primary “win” there: results revealed that she may have reason to worry about her grasp on the African-American vote.

The Michigan primary vote was essentially meaningless: the national party stripped the state of its delegates because it held its contest too early in the election season, and Clinton was the only major Democratic contender whose name appeared on the ballot.

Even so, roughly 70 percent of Michigan’s African-American voters — a group that makes up a quarter of Michigan’s Democratic electorate — did not cast their votes for Clinton, choosing the “uncommitted” option instead. Yet these voters weren’t uncommitted at all: in fact, according to CNN exit polls, they overwhelmingly favored Barack Obama, whose name did not appear on the ballot.

Hillary is seen as the establishment Dem candidate (duh), and it was the dem establishment that (a) stripped MI of its primary and (b) came out attacking Obama to save Hillary. The time may be at hand where the Dems take the African-American vote for granted once too many times and break what has been a questionable political alliance from day one.

Blacks see Obama as their time of arrival (and I must admit if he was just a little more conservative I would look at him too), and it is now a Clinton standing in their way to final validation as Americans. The long trip from slavery to equality will only culminate when a black is president, and the face of the party standing in their way is Hillary Clinton. The black community may never forgive the dems/Clintons for dashing their dreams.

More on how Hillary lost to candidate “uncommitted” at Captains Quarters – too funny for Hillary.

Paraphrasing 60’s rock legend “The Cream” – aka as Eric Clapton,
Ginger Baker, and umm the bass player, maybe Noel Redding:

    I’m so bored
    I’m so bored
    I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored,

    I’m so bored
    I’m so bored
    I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored,

    etc.

I couldn’t care less about whom on the democrat side wants
to surrender America the fastest, also known as buy your life-partner
    a burka,

    nor,

do I care whom on the Republican side is the best at preserving
the ideological purity of the Reaginst Era!

It would be nice to hear about something wot actually mattered.
I’ll pay attention again in October.

AJ, there was several attempts by the local democrats to ensure that if they did not see their candidate, then do not write in the name which would spoil the ballot, instead write in uncommitted. So, I think their message came through loud and clear.

I kind of thought Romney would carry Michigan. I think that if Romney keeps talking more about the economy and less about immigration, he will do better.

Huckabee took hell for sounding like a populist, but he caught onto the fact that people are worried about the economy. People gave McCain hell for being himself, but I think that independence is what worked for him in New Hampshire.

Romney needs to be himself, run on his record and talk about the economy. I think we saw more of that in Michigan and it worked for him.

    Terrye,
    Agree.
And Romney’s being himself is just demonstrating that he is an economic literate and an optimist.

And McCain needs to show a little more predictability.
