Iran Ready To Replace al-Qaeda As Prime Concern In Iraq

Published by at 12:24 pm under All General Discussions,Iran,Iraq

With al-Qaeda losing support in Iraq to the point locals are signing peace agreements and swearing on the Koran to fight terrorists in their regions, Iran is posturing to be the next big issue in Iraq. We have known of border incursion problems by Iranians and people being supported from Iranian safe havens. In fact Iraq prisons are quite filled with these people, and some where just broken out of prison:

Twenty-four Iranians being held in an Iraqi prison near the border with Iran succeeded in escaping Saturday night, the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) reported Sunday. VOI cited a security source in Wasit province, 180 kilometres south-east of Baghdad, as reporting the prison escape, and said that police had managed to recapture four of them.

Worse yet is the recent find of 50 Iranian rocket launchers aimed at our forces in Iraq:

US armed forces in Iraq uncovered a field containing 50 Iranian-made rocket launchers, all aimed at a US army base, Israel Radio reported overnight Saturday.

Sadly the SurrenderMedia gloss over the importance of such finds. But they are focused on inane and marginal issues. In echoes of Neville Chamberlain and Hitler from a century ago, we can see the Islamo Fascist threatening regional domination one day and claiming it is all an innocent misunderstanding the next:

Hossaein Shariatmadari, adviser to the Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, claimed in the daily newspaper Kayhan last week that Bahrain was part of Iran.

His comments provoked a backlash from Bahrain government officials and residents who called for Iran to respect the principles of friendly ties bonding the two countries.

They also urged Iran to clarify its stance on the statements, while parliament’s financial and economic committee member Latifa Al Qaoud said Bahrain was an Arab and Islamic country and had been so since the earliest times.

Mr Mottaki’s visit to Bahrain was arranged before the controversy blew up, but provided an opportunity to set the record straight.

“We had a long friendly discussion and we received official assurances from the Iranian Foreign Minister, who confirmed the depth of bilateral relations and loyalty between the two countries,” Shaikh Khalid told a Press conference at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Manama.

Yeah, and Iran has only peaceful intentions with its nukes while claiming Israel is about to be wiped from the face of the Earth. Nothing to worry about here. As al-Qaeda loses ground the US is quite actively pursuing the Persian-Shiite brand of Islamo Fascism:

U.S. soldiers killed six Iraqi policemen and seven gunmen Friday during a street battle that began when the troops captured a police lieutenant accused of directing a Shiite militia group, the military said.

The predawn raid in eastern Baghdad came a day after another clash in the same area that left at least 11 Iraqis dead. In both cases, U.S. forces were targeting Shiite militias in an attempt to curb their influence. Militiamen have infiltrated police units, and many members of the country’s Sunni minority do not trust the police.

The military described the lieutenant as having ties to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which U.S. officials say supports Shiite militias in Iraq. Iranian officials have denied such assertions.

Persian attacks in Arab Iraq will see an even larger backlash than al-Qaeda’s brutal acts have seen. Iraqis are not a weak passive people. And they have little trust of Persians or desire to live under more brutality. The Iranians are playing a bad hand in Iraq, and playing it badly. How badly? Well they keep bringing more and more Iraqis into alliance against them as they attack every major ethnic group:

Officials in Iraq’s Kurdistan region say gunmen have killed seven border guards near the Iranian border.

They say the guards were ambushed early Sunday. Iraq’s Kurdistan region has been relatively peaceful compared to the rest of the country.

I personally think Iran thought al-Qaeda would be doing much better and began to make moves they will now regret. If al-Qaeda does crumble, as it is now, then having the Persians left as the ones killing Arabs in Iraq will seal the deal against both Shiite Mahdi extremists as well as Sunni al-Qaeda extremists. Iraqis are no doubt getting fed up with everyone using them to show how they can kill massive numbers of Muslims in some lame excuse to be fighting the Americans who are really defending the innocent Muslims as best they can. This canard cannot last, the facade is falling.

Confederate Yankee has the story on the missles and pictures to boot showing the missles.

    Via MNF-I:

After several rockets hit FOB Hammer on July 11, the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team maneuvered to find the source of the attack. Early on July 12, the 3rd HBCT’s unmanned aerial vehicle located 46 rocket launchers in the northern section of Besmaya Range Complex aimed at FOB Hammer. Thirty-four of the launchers were armed with Iranian 107mm rockets. The Besmaya Range Complex is adjacent to the Coalition Force base. Soldiers of the 789th Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, currently attached to the 3rd HBCT, immediately responded to the site. According to Capt. Justin Gerken, from Red Wing, Minn., commander of the 789th EOD team, 12 of the 46 rockets had already been used to attack FOB Hammer the day prior. EOD Soldiers were able to determine that the rockets originated from Iran after analyzing the unexploded ordnance. The 789th EOD team was successful in neutralizing the remaining rockets.

Wow, what a change! Thanks, Merlin and AJStrata!

Think William Kristol may be right about Bush! William Kristol was right about last year’s election in spite of people getting angry with him. Let’s hope he is right about ’08.

Knew Bush had to be really smart to know he has to turn this around before next year’s elections.
