Moderate Guiliani Still With Commanding Lead

Published by at 12:55 pm under 2008 Elections,All General Discussions

All polls show Mayor Guiliani with a commanding lead in the 2008 Presidential race for the republican nomination. Right now ‘Da Mayor’ is addressing his supposed ‘Achilles’ Heel’ issues like abortion. This seems to be having no effect on his numbers. My guess is the 2006 debacle really soured a lot of people with the ultra conservatives who spout “RINO” as an insult they like to throw at their supposed partners in the conservative movement. Seems the “RINO”s are sticking their horns a little but more towards the center this time around, with people who respect their views and inputs. Will the coalition bridge the divide? Depends on whether the RINO-haters can accept their partners in a governing coalition or not. Thankfully I am an Independent – so I cannot even be called a “RINO”.

Addendum: If strong conservatives think the answer to Guiliani’s lead is character assassination I would like to propose the idea that the reason he is in the lead is people are tired of the character assassination schtick. And like I said – calling him a RINO out of anger is not going to move his numbers down, just marginalize those doing the name calling.

Poll Shows Clinton, Giuliani Way Out Front…

The most recent Gallup poll has Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani far ahead of their competitors (h/t OTB). Here are the numbers for the top 4 Democratic candidates:Clinton 38%, Obama 19%, Edwards 15%, Gore 14%And with Gore out of the…

the presidential final two will be Hillary and Fred

Rudy is just as repub as Thompson. Either candidate will do just fine, but I think once Thompson throws his hat in, the Repub issue will be decided. (i actually think it already is)

I want a republican president who is strong on the GOT and who understands that we cannot lose in Iraq under any circumstances. I will never understand the people who voted for dims in such a crucial time. The dims told everybody they didn’t believe in the GOT or the war in Iraq. Do people just vote for party not knowing what that party stands for or even if it has changed? I believe so.

Yes, Barbara I believe they let their emotions rule. And the consequences are deadly. Let them have this hanging over their heads. I really think they just don’t care…they just want to have some power. Same coin, just the opposite side as the dems.

And I want to see the poll numbers now with Fred Thompson vs. Hillary, Barack Hussein Obama and John Edwards. Does he beat them all? If he doesn’t, I don’t want him as the front runner. We cannot afford to lose. Period.

    Btw, Rudy beats ’em all.

Look, Republicans are the minority party in sheer numbers. In order to get a candidate elected, you have to run someone who can get votes from the other party and most importantly independents. Rudy and Mitt both won in heavy Democrat areas. They are the perfect candidates for a general election. Fred Thompson has some Reaganesque appeal and might cause many to cross over. McCain has some appeal because many Democrats see him as a RINO.

No hard core conservative would ever be elected. If one got the party nomination, I *promise* you there would be a more moderate Republican running as an independent. I doubt Tancredo, for example, would do any better than Kucinich did last time. He might get 2% of the national vote. Even if he got 100% of all Republican votes, he would still lose by over 20 points because not a single Democrat or Independent would vote for him.

In order to win the national election you need a candidate that people in the other party will vote for. And … no Presidential candidate can make a law. Tancredo would not be able to build a fence and Rudy can’t force your daughter to have an abortion. Only Congress can make a law.

All that said, I sure hope Thompson runs, otherwise Rudy gets my vote.

I like Rudy and Thompson and I would vote for Romney and while a lot of conservatives complain about McCain I would vote for him too. He is strong on defense and over all votes pretty conservative.

  7. crosspatch says:

I woudl vote for Rudy, Mitt, or McCain too. I would vote for Hillary before I would vote for Tancredo, though. Actually, I would probably just stay home if those were my only choices … or maybe I would just write in AJ Strata.

Still a little early to pick a winner.

I would vote for any republican nominee. I would even hold my nose and vote for McCain even though I don’t trust him. He is tons better than Hillary. We cannot let the democrats have the presidency. They will not protect this country. They will appease and surrender. They have shown this time and time again. In fact, they have more or less said they would.
