Michael J Fox Helped Kill MO Constitutional Cloning Bill

Michael J Fox (and Rush Limbaugh) easily helped bring needed focus and clarity to the Bill in MO that is lying when it says it is about Stem Cell Research (embryonic or otherwise) when in fact it is trying to place the right to clone and kill into the State’s constitution. If it was not for Fox’s over-the-top ad for Democrat Claire McCaskill (while Fox laughably says disease should non-partisan), the fraud being perpetrated on the good people of Missourri would never have been scrutinized to this level. We owe a lot to Rush Limbaugh too for creating a media firestorm to feed the news cycles and get the truth out. That was neither man’s intentions, but we now have the results and that is a drop in support for the Bill:

But compared with earlier polls, support has declined for Amendment 2, with just over half — 51 percent — of poll participants backing the measure and 35 percent opposed.

The percentage of opposition has changed little from Research 2000’s earlier polls. But the number of undecided has jumped dramatically to 14 percent — almost five times the percentage in the June poll.

The poll’s margin of error is 3.5 percentage points, which means that any figure could be that much higher or lower.

The percentage of opposition, as the article notes, has not gone up. But mony of those supporting the Bill have moved into the “what is this?” (or undecided) column.

For Talent and McCaskill, Amendment 2 might come into play in a decisive way by affecting turnout, especially on the Republican side.

Almost three-quarters of McCaskill’s supporters polled said they favor Amendment 2, while just over half of Talent’s backers oppose it.

Poll participant Terri Baur, a nurse from O’Fallon, Mo., favors Talent largely because of their common opposition to the amendment and abortion.

As Baur sees it, the amendment “is about killing life.”

Although she also cites her agreement with Talent on national security issues, Baur said that her enthusiasm for voting on Nov. 7 is fueled by the fact that “I’m strong on pro-life issues.”

Poll participant Mark Terry, 31, says that he remains undecided in the U.S. Senate contest. But he’s leaning toward Talent, in part because Terry, a carpenter in Crystal City, opposes Amendment 2.

Such comments indicate to Ali that Talent’s success at the polls could be tied to the amendment’s defeat.

“The momentum of those opposed to Amendment 2 could be the incentive for social conservatives to come out and vote,” Ali said. “They could be saying, ‘I’ll vote against the stem cell measure and, while I’m at it, I’ll vote for Jim Talent.’

Americans don’t like being conned. The Bill clearly is an attempt to make human clones, using the Dolly-the-sheep process, and then kill them off for parts. When will this madness stop? Will we induce identical twins so that each person will have a living spare parts warehouse? Any seen The Island recently?

I’m in Missouri. This week a lot of people at my office started discussing this amendment. Most hadn’t thought much about it before Wed., and some were inclined to vote yes because of the months-long bombardment of advertising we’ve been subjected to. But all of us are pro-life, and a couple of us were well-informed already. So it’s all been fixed now, thanks to Mr. Fox.

  2. retire05 says:

Nelle, while I said in an earlier post that St. Louis is heavily Democratic, it is also a strong Catholic city. Missouri is a religious state with not only a strong Catholic base but being home of the Missouri Synod of the Luthern Church as well. Amendment 2 could be the tipping point for many who would normally vote Democrat but are pro-life and don’t want a human cloning bill in their state.

Also, I heard there is a company in Missouri that has poured $28 million into getting Amendment 2 passed that stands to gain from the embryonic stem cell research since that is their business. Know anything about them?

  3. BIGDOG says:

THe initiative DOES NOT ALLOW the “dolly the sheep” reproductive cloning process. Its very clear about this.

  4. the good doctor says:

The company is owned by a couple who are researchers who is this is passed will make billions not millions. That’s why they spent millions.

While they might not create a clone human ie. they still can create reproductive cloning in animals. That is not illegal and is actually being done if you are willing to shell the money. They would create clone human embryos to have as spare parts provided the science is successfull, so far is a failure. That is messing with nature and G-d.

  5. BIGDOG says:

So do you support IVF doc?

  6. retire05 says:

BigDog, current the left over embryos not used in IVF are frozen and stored. If the IVF doesn’t work (and often it takes a number of times) those extras are thawed out and used.
You say that Amendment 2 doesn’t allow for the “Dolly the Sheep” process. Have you read the whole amendment? If what you say is true, then by what process will the ESCR be performed?
And don’t you wonder what a company that stands to garner billions from the passage of this amendment is pouring $28 million into getting it passed? Anytime someone spends millions to earn billions from taxpayer revenues, you should wonder why.

  7. BIGDOG says:

    Retire maybe you should reconsider:
“BigDog, current the left over embryos not used in IVF are frozen and stored. If the IVF doesn’t work (and often it takes a number of times) those extras are thawed out and used.”

According to the Jones Institute 10-20 percent of these embryos result in human pregnancy. In 1998 28,000 babies were born via IVF. That means that 140,000-280,000 were lost in this process.

    · Many embryos die in the transfer process since they are fragile.
    · Some embryos are unwanted and eliminated because they are considered genetically inadequate.
    · Some embryos are stored alive in freezers.
    · Some embryos are simply killed as they are washed down the sink.

You want to bitch about research cloning destroying human life. Wow talk about selective ethics.

Centre of Stem Cell Biology:When in fact “ES cells lines are derived by growing and expanding the numbers of the ICM cells of mammalian embryos. Once expanded, ES cells can be grown indefinitely in the lab raising the possibility of growing large numbers of specialised cell types for use in transplantation and research into basic biology, toxicology and drug discovery.”

  8. Michael J. Fox Admits Not Reading Cloning Initiative…

ABC News had an interview with Michael J. Fox this morning, with the usual questions. But there is one small segment of the video that is interesting. It’s at the point that Michael admits he never read the initiative that he campaigned for, in…

  9. Michael J. Fox Admits He Has Not Read Missouri’s Stem Cell Amendment…

Thanks to Flopping Aces for the video.
    Via ABC:
Stephanopoulos: In the ad now running in Missouri, Jim Caviezel speaks in Aramaic. It means, “You betray me with a kiss.” And his position, his point, is that actually even though down in Misso…

  10. Reading (and Writing) Isn’t Fundamental…

Did any of them actually read this document? Michael J. Fox admits he didn’t. I doubt any of the others did either. For those who actually want to read what all the hubbub is about, here it is….

  11. the good doctor says:

When I was a younger MD I worked in an IVF lab. In the begining of IVF there was only one concern that was to enable the 10% of infertile couples to have children. There was not much thought of the embryos created as it was understood they will be there for that specific couple. Back then I read an article by HH John Paul II in which he oposed IVF and he warned a Pandora’s box was being opened as only G-d was to create life.
I then thought He was wrong because we were only trying to help these couple now as I see was is proposed in this amendment and what is being presently done to these embryos in labs and marvel at His vission. He was right , He had a better vission into the future than I did. Now they are calling good old cloning Somatic Nuclear Transfer.
BD says they are not going to create Dolly, guess what that has been done and it’s perfectly legal. They think they can get away with destruction of embryos by saying they won’t be placed in someone’s uterus and thus creating a human clone. No they just want them for spare parts.Great! that justifies the killing.

Michael J Fox is a very desperate man. All the jerking around you saw in the little Hollywood ads and interviews is not because he went of his meds is because his meds are not working. This has been missed by everybody. So he goes and campaings for an amendment that he has never read. He says he is not a victim. He is a victim of the Democratic party that is using his desperation to gain a senate seat.Just like they used Reeves and said that if you elected Kerry Reeves was going to walk.Reeves was another desperate man who’s time was running out.We saw him deteriorate through the years and just like Fox they cling to anything that has any hope.

What bothers me the most about Fox is that he knows the results of the current embryonic stem cell research in Parkinson. He is aware of the tumors, etc. and he still insists in going foward with the same embryonic stem cell research minus the transplant rejection that cloning will offer him. They say in 15 years they’ll see results. They don’t know. The Dems look at a senate while the researchers are looking at the money.Great combo.

The most promising research in Parkinsons is not stem cell is viral gene therapy in which the use a benign virus as a way to deliver a gene sequence to a neuron so that it produces dopamine. Is being done at Cornell and Rush Medical center. The FDA after reviewing initial results approved the first trial. We will see results a lot faster with this type of therapy and Fox knows about this since he just gave this research a grant. He is just desperate as his time is running fast now.

I wish IVF was never done. The Pope was right. We were messing with G-d and creation. Now,as for you BD I don’t expect you to understand anything I just said. So go ahead open Wikepedia and put another isoteric quote. I ‘ll just vote against the ammendment.

  12. Barbara says:

I don’t agree with the Good Doctor. I am glad IVF was invented. It gave children to couples who otherwise would not have had them. And who is to say that God did not have a hand in this procedure. Perhaps this is another way he allowed these children to be born.

The unfortunate thing is that opportunists will take such a breakthrough in science and turn and twist it for their own agenda. This would happen with anything and we cannot stop discovering new procedures and new cures because some will use them for their own ends. This is the way the world works.

  13. BIGDOG says:

Bd did not say we wouldnt make another dolly or how did you put it Doc:
“BD says they are not going to create Dolly, guess what that has been done and it’s perfectly legal.”

I love the way you people put words into my mouth and call it good. Im not suprised, but you are starting to piss me off. I have studied the initiative and my sources are not just wiki. Again another complete and total bullshit counterpoint to this whole debate. I thought you guys discussed issues and respected each other. Instead you attack, create innuendos and try and tear me down…instead of addressing my points of contention. Seems to be complete and total ignorance on your part- (insert name here if it applies).

Spare parts you say? Oh please doctor-debunk…please explain what spare parts you are refering to.

Just like asking you about IVF…..i’ll be waiting another week for your explaination of “spare parts”.

  14. AJStrata says:

    BD,

We did address your points. We said you had no idea what you are trying to discuss. The Good Doctor spent years getting her/his certifications. He/She did not just read things. To become a doctor you need to study and be tested to show you have gained competence. And you must do it through multiple degree programs and the into residency and state certification. The point is your 5 months of research doesn\’t compare. You have been failing your tests ever since you posted on this subject. There is no reason for any of us who have been trained in these matters needs to go point by point to show you what you refuse to see – you are wrong. Get over it.

  15. Fox Admits He had Not READ the Cloning/Stem Cell Amendment…

Michael J. Fox appeared on ABC’s show hosted by George Stephanopoulos and admitted he had NOT read the Missouri Stem Cell Amendment. Perhaps it may have been a good idea to do so before campaigning for an amendment that included cloning….
