Democrats Cannot Handle National Security

Published by at 5:32 pm under 2006 Elections,All General Discussions

How do I know?  They open their mouths:

Some Democrats, breaking ranks from their leadership, today said the death of terrorist leader Abu Musab Zarqawi in Iraq was a stunt to divert attention from an unpopular and hopeless war.

“This is just to cover Bush’s [rear] so he doesn’t have to answer” for Iraqi civilians being killed by the U.S. military and his own sagging poll numbers, said Rep. Pete Stark, California Democrat. “Iraq is still a mess — get out.

This is why they will continue to lose elections.  When faced with the fact a murderous thug was killed, their response is partisan drool.   Who is going to elect leaders whose paranoid delusions are this out of control.  A few more days of this and Reps can probably count on picking up seats in Congress.

If in fact Rep. Pete Stark said what he is quoted as having said (and he is not quoted as having used the word “stunt”, by the bye), then that was a particularly impolitic and arguably quite stupid thing for him to have said.

No more idiotic, however, than attempting to tar all (or, “many”, or “a substantial number”, or indeed even “some”) sitting Democrats, with the brush which one (1) Democrat politician has employed against himself. The Washington Times piece in several respects reflects particularly dismal journalism, starting with the headline. Wouldn’t you agree ?

Why is it that “many” Dems want to engage in this kind of hair-splitting when they’re called on there lack of patriotism and support?

Does it have anything to do with their eagerness to tar all (or, “many”, or “a substantial number”, or indeed even “some”) sitting Republicans, members of the military, or ordinary patriotic Americans?

Obviously, your definition of “hair-splitting” is not Standard English usage. The difference between one (1), and “many” or “a substantial number” or “all” is, quite obviously, huge in this context. (That is (just to spell it out for you), there are hundreds of sitting Democratic representatives in Congress.)

As to your (non-responsive) additional comments, I believe it fair to say that “many Democrats” (and indeed “many patriotic Americans” who do not identify themselves with the Democratic party) do indeed blame many of this Nation’s political representatives (of both parties) and believe them to have failed this country’s geopolitical interests, its spiritual foundations, and its servicemen by having advanced and/or uncritically supported the Iraq (mis-)adventure.

While I am sure that someone will correct me if my memory fails here, but my understanding of the matter is that a substantial majority of Americans have at this point come to the conclusion that launching this war was a mistake. While that (as I understand it) is now the “consensus opinion”, the problem that now must be addressed is how does the United States get out of the mess that it has gotten itself (and Iraq, etc.) into. Obviously, that is a difficult question, and people of good faith may, of course, hold vastly differing opinions on the subject.

Politics being what it is, I am sure that there are a substantial number of Democrats (perhaps most) who would like “to tar” sitting Republicans (and, of course, vice-versa). I do not believe, however, that there are many Democrats (either rank-and-file or otherwise) “are eager to tar” members of the military or ordinary patriotic Americans, nor am I aware of any evidence in support of such a random, indiscriminate attitude being prevalent among Democrats (or others) in this country.
