O-blink (Or Misdirection?)

Published by at 10:35 am under All General Discussions

I am not sure what to make of this news, because it signals that the White House may have a hidden core of sanity hidden some place within its extensive liberal fantasy land:

In a statement Friday, Obama said he had ordered Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposal, in part because of the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy.

The withdrawal of the proposed EPA rule comes two days after the White House identified seven such regulations that it said would cost private business at least $1 billion each. The proposed smog standard was estimated to cost anywhere between $19 billion and $90 billion, depending on how strict it would be.

OK, so why now all the concern about business impacts regarding the green madness that has infected the liberal left? I mean they did not care about outlawing CO2 and raising energy prices across the board before this? I have never seen an iota of concern or even assistance to businesses when it came to the liberal agenda. It has been over 2 years of “damn the economy, full speed ahead!”

So hwy now? The regulations in question are a Green Kool-Aid Drinker’s dream come true:

Factories, hospitals, universities, power plants and even churches are in the cross hairs of hyperaggressive regulators at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Seven proposed rules pending before the agency are poised to inflict more than $125 billion in costs on the U.S. economy annually, according to EPA’s own estimates.

Trust me when I say the EPA’s damage assessment to our economy was in all likelihood ridiculously optimistic. So why the sacrificial lamb? Probably because of this::

“While these costs are significant, they are small compared to the potential costs from the EPA’s impending global warming regulations,” said Pat Michaels of the Cato Institute.

The left is now in full desperation mode as they realize they have only a very small window to try and sneak as much of their agenda past the American people before they are toast in 2012. Watch this to be the carrot to the GOP so they can apply the big stick of global warming nonsense in the up coming proposals.

This group in the White House appears to be that naive about DC politics, that they think giving on this will earn them something in return later. Not right now. Not with all their political capital gone and the credibility in the tank. Is there such a thing as a Phyrric Surrender???

you have GOT to see the photoshop on the bottom of this page of Malkin’s blog – actually, both of them are great, but the one with Obama and Boehner is PRICELESS!!! And I think it explains what just happened perfectly!

and meant to add – I don’t think this is some kind of head fake, I think this is a capitulation by a poseur who’s totally out of his depth.
He will cave on the EPA regs too, but he won’t tell the envirotards until the last minute. (probably claim they’ll be delayed until “after the election”)

    “the Yips”
    1. noun usually associated with golf; 2. making a superficially bold choice that is revealed to be a bad one and then not only backing away when confronted but also quickly making a second bad decision, such as attempting to schedule a joint session of Congress on one day and when refused, immediately accepting another day suggested by the Speaker that is on the same night as the NFL season opener. If the repubics will not disband this rogue (or is it rouge…) agency, they are not serious about the future of our country.

This was a surrender to a internal Democratic interest groups. Democratic Senators and Representatives from Farm States.

Senate Republicans are close to 60 votes with farm state and Coal state Democrats uniting against Global Warming regulations.

If Obama didn’t give the Farm state Senate Democrats something, the Lefties would loose it all on AGW.

    AJ,

It behooves me why you are not covering one of the, if not THE biggest scandal in American history, that being, Fast and Furious (Gunwalker) cabal. They now have three of O’s national security team members with knowledge of it and more to come. Apparently Issa has some more smoking gun information that ties the administration in deeper. This is going to be something to truly watch and it is fortunately happening during an election year the one nail that could close the coffin and bury him so deep he will never recover. Let us pray to God that it does and he rescues America from the evil that inhabits the White House. It appears to have gotten the interest of more media such as, CBS and the LA Times (who has done an outstanding job covering it I think). Pajamas Media’s Bob Owens truly owns this story, and has shown a doggedness mentality in his investigation of all the criminals involved in Operation Gunwalker and the cover up. Do catch up and please please write about this. I would love to know your opinion on this HUGE crime. Seriously, people need to go to jail over this one and serve some serious time!! Also, read Pajamas Medias articles on the Justice Dept stacking the deck with left wing loon attorneys.

The Obama Administration’s performance, as illustrated by this Mexican gun running deal, reminds me of the town moron who mounted a fishing pole on a row boat, hung a sheet on it and thought he had a sail boat.

  7. WWS says:

CJ – the only reason I can see for going slow in the gunwalker investigation – and I *hope* this is why it’s going slow, although of course it could be just simple ineptitude – is that it will be much more destructive to have it all finally break out into the open next summer.

Oh, imagine Eric Holder facing impeachment hearings – that would be a beautiful thing!!!

And I am absolutely convinced he is a criminal.

    CJ,

Honestly, I am waiting for something firm to break open leading to the top. So far lots of smoke – not fire

    AJ and WWS,

Here’s an intriging statement from the article Gunwalker: Details of Coverup Revealed by Bob Owens,
“The White House response involves an interesting choice of phrasing, stating that these emails did not prove that the White House was aware of the tactic of allowing thousands of guns to “walk” to the cartels. Mike Vanderboegh, one of the bloggers most responsible for bringing Gunwalker to light, calls the White House response a “Nixonian ‘modified limited hangout,’” and states that the smoking gun evidence of more White House involvement does exist.”

Can you think of any plausable reasons why a special prosecutor hasn’t been called?

  10. WWS says:

“Can you think of any plausable reasons why a special prosecutor hasn’t been called?”

Yes – because the legislation which authorized Special Prosecutors lapsed in 1999, and was never renewed. After all the investigations of the 80’s and the 90’s, both parties decided they were sick of it.

Now there *is* such a thing as the “U.S. Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel” – but guess what, whoever holds this office answers *directly* to the Attorney General.

And who expects the Attorney General’s hand picked staffer to really investigate the Attorney General? Why bother even pretending to go through the farce? So Issa’s Congressional panel is all we’ve got.

(James writes for the UK Telegraph)

“It’s the sun, stupid.” This was the excited conclusion many readers drew from a recent much-read blogpost of mine about the latest results from the CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. The story concerned a major experiment called CLOUD (Cosmics Leaving Outdoor Droplets) and seemed to confirm everything that the world’s growing band of “skeptics” would dearly love to hear: that the sun, not man-made CO2 is by far the most important factor in “Climate Change.”

Actually, though, the story’s more complicated than that. And, in many ways, more interesting. Yes, the experiment did lend encouraging credence to the theory by the Danish physicist Henrik Svensmark that solar radiation may play a significant role in seeding the clouds which warm (and cool) the planet. But what it didn’t do was prove anything except that this is a promising area and that more research needs to be done.

What it did do very much to confirm, though, was the extreme establishment bias which has corrupted and debased the whole debate about Anthropogenic Global Warming. The real story lay, not in the experiment’s tentative findings, but in the insistence by CERN’s own Director General Rolf-Dieter Heuer, that it wasn’t a story.

    lot’s more at the link,

    Hope it helps

    WWS,

So there is no one that check on the DOJ? Who then can enfore the law on the DOJ? This is scary!

  13. WWS says:

That’s the sad situation, CJ – under current law, there is NO avenue of legal oversight over the DOJ except Congressional panels, such as Issa’s. And all they can do is issue subpoena’s and hope the DOJ cooperates.

And here’s the real stinker – Congress has no enforcement power, other than impeachment. They can make a hell of a public relations stink, but that’s about it. They CAN impeach *any* holder of a Federal Office; but of course that’s meaningless unless the Senate cooperates.

That’s why it’s so important who we vote for. We’ve handed the keys of the kingdom to a pack of thugs, and until they’re voted out they can pretty much do whatever they hell they want.

  14. cj_thespook says:

Manylaws have been broken here without doubt. Innocent people have died because of these people and no one can touch them? This is truly shocking and utterly sickening.

  15. lurker9876 says:

There IS one aspect of these stories not mentioned because it’s sort of off topic:

If Obama gets re-elected, guess what will happen to the US Supreme Court?

Now that is the scariest part…we will see more activist judges that share Obama’s extreme radically left ideology.

Secondly, the MSM has done very little to report the truth. That is the third scariest aspect of these stories.

As for Obama’s request for a joint session next Wednesday night, he wasn’t the first to be denied. Tip denied Reagan. Boehner said the right things.

I am guessing that AJStrata is looking for a confirmed, serious, and proven connection between the White House and GunWalker. Although, I did read that one of the reasons for GunWalker is to destroy the second amendment allowing for enactment of strong gun control laws.

    Now, that’s another scary part.

I watched Sarah Palin give her speech yesterday and loved many points in her speech.

    – Divorce from the Federal Family! Yahoo!
    – Push for strong tenth amendment! Yahoo!
    – Push for energy “all of the above” approaches
    – Push for private sector development with little government interference
    – No federal corporate tax rates

Some think that Perry and Palin are too populists. Are they populists? Obama’s “We the People” petition is too populist for me and I’ve no desire to participate in this new program. BAD idea.

If she enters the race, it’s going to make the race all more interesting. Perry and Palin would’ve added strength to the race. She’s going to make is more difficult for voters to decide in the primaries. I’d rather not see her enter the race just yet.

We’re finally getting relief from the heat in the last few days and I’m attributing it to Tropical Storm Lee. But am hoping the relief is more permanent than just Lee itself.

  16. WWS says:

I love it when anyone says a conservative is “too populist”. What that means is they won’t listen to the Washington Establishment but they’ll still get a lot of votes, darn it!

I suspect Palin is going to endorse Perry, and stay out of the race. If she was going to get in, why not yesterday? Why not be part of the debate on the 7th?

All this talk about our “Federal Family” – lets be more specific, just what family member are we talking about here – our Big Brother, maybe?

Supreme Court, oh yeah, I’ve been singing that song since November 2008.

  17. lurker9876 says:

Palin’s endorsement of Perry and later enter the race in 2016 or 2020 would be the wisest decision for her. I can see how Palin can help endorse so many candidates towards victory in next year’s elections.

Am afraid that we’re going to need a very strong conservative to undo the work that Obama and his Democrats did. (Funny how the Democrats said the same things about Bush but then there were a few things that Bush and the Republicans did that need to be reversed!)

I have a hard time understanding why Perry and Palin’s now conservative principles are considered populist. But now we see Obama and the Democrats attempting to paint the Republicans as too extreme.

Santelli may have done the right thing at the right time. Electing Obama may also have been the right thing at the right time, which woke many Americans from complacency. 2012 is going to be the real test…a bigger test than 2010.

I think the Supreme Court has to be the biggest issue that we face because once Obama replaces the conservatives with his radically left activist judges, we’re pretty much done for a very long time as they have no terms and no retirement age limits. I have not heard of anyone being forced out of the US Supreme Court.

  18. lurker9876 says:

Last statement in this link – good point: http://blogs.dailymail.com/donsurber/files/2011/09/McKee_C20110901-550×357.jpg
