Democrats Turn Hard Left, Over Political Cliff

Published by at 10:59 am under All General Discussions

In the ho-hum doldrums of Obama’s Lame Duck session of congress it is clear the Democrat Party has succumbed to its hyper-partisan liberal fringe. It is not just the liberal spending and government takeover binge of the last congress, nor the realization the White House has not intentions of moderating, just hyper-spinning. The fact is the democrat party’s grass roots are rotting out, killing off any semblance of ‘centrist’ under the weight of liberal weeds:

The Democratic Leadership Council, the iconic centrist organization of the Clinton years, is out of money and could close its doors as soon as next week, a person familiar with the plans said Monday.

The DLC, a network of Democratic elected officials and policy intellectuals had long been fading from its mid-’90s political relevance, tarred by the left as a symbol of “triangulation” at a moment when there’s little appetite for intra-party warfare on the center-right.

As we have seen the far left is in full denial and on ‘transmit’ only. They have no time for reason or diversity of views.

Well, it does make it easier to pick a side in the future elections. Sad to see the party of my parents and grand parents die out this way, but there is no use pretending anymore. The Democrat Party of LBJ and JFK is dead and gone and now consumed by Marxist, socialist ideologues.

Update: Ed Morrissey notes how moderate Democrat defections to the GOP are a continuation of a major realignment. This is realignment is actually two shifts happening together. As the Dems have moved to the far left, the rest of the country has joined in common cause to resist and roll back their crazy ideas. Polarization is the true force behind this shift. The more shrill the left become, the more people who drift away into the opposition to shut them down.

It is a classic example of how purity to ideology destroys broad democratic support. Democracy at its level-headed finest.

How ironic that as the country moves more and more conservative (in response to the left’s excesses) the Democrats go farther and farther left. They’ve got Hitler-in-the-Bunker syndrome.

And today the news is that Jane Harman is quitting before this session even really gets started – her “crime” was working too responsibly with Bush when she was on the House Intelligence Panel, and as long as Pelosi runs the Dem caucus she is going to shut out of everything, so why bother showing up at all? Harman is representative of the class of DLC-type centrists who are being pushed out of the Dem Party by Pelosi and her stooges.

And in that light, the era of the Blue Dogs is over. They were predominantly southern and rural conservatives who hung on to the Democrat designation for historical reasons in districts that tended to vote Republican in national elections. The last couple of months since the election have seen a wave of party-switching in state level positions from Texas to Georgia. The blue dogs are dying out, either retiring for good or switching to the GOP, and there will be no more “conservative” dems to replace them.

It truly is the end of an era. I wonder when Heath Shuler will figure out that it’s time for him to switch parties?

    end of the blue dogs:

lol, posted my link at the same time as you did your update. Great minds and all that!

  5. lurker9876 says:

Interesting that the Blue Dogs have met with Bill Clinton to figure out how they can be attractive to the centrists in 2012.

And they can probably do it.

In the meantime, I see that Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are trying to figure out how to repeat the “government shutdown” blame on the GOP.

I think the GOP is preparing an onslaught to ensure that it does not get the blame.

The difference is that the lamestream media back in 1994 had the power and influence to convice the Americans to believe in this blame game as opposed to today’s weakening lamestream media.

  6. WWS says:

lurker, there soon will be no more “blue dogs” and I think the GOP can pick up another 30 seats in the house in 2012. Mostly from what are now still “blue dog” seats.

Some will switch, some will simply fade away.

The entire thesis that centrists can somehow have a voice in the Dem party is now dead. Their own party hates them; why would anyone want a job, even a high paid one, where their effectiveness is guaranteed to be ZERO from now on, no matter how long they stay in office? That’s why Jane Harman quit; that’s why the rest of the dems like her will either quit or switch over the next couple of election cycles.

and this is how once proud political parties die. First they marginalize themselves, then they die. Something more centrist will emerge someday, but it won’t have anything to do with the Dem party.

    That party is lost forever.

  7. ivehadit says:

And they are going to try to make themselves “mainstream” and move everybody else into the category of “far right”. Now, remember, their attempt to be mainstream will be for appearances only while, under the radar, they will be shredding our country into smitherines, doing damage that may not be able to be reversed. We are STILL suffering from carter’s follies: dept of edu, energy, CRA, Iran, and on and on.

Also, I wish someone would investigate how much money is being given to the democrats from CAIR, if any.

  8. WWS says:

and investigate how much funding CAIR gets from Hamas and Al Qaeda!

Interesting how the Democratic Party used the Blue Dogs to gain back its majority in 2006. And now, they want nothing to do with the Blue Dogs.

Once fooled, will the Blue Dogs be fooled again ten year from now?

So if the Democratic Party is going to disappear, AOL is pretty stupid to agree to buy out Arianna and giving her all rights to control the site content.

I’m glad I don’t have an aol account but for those that do should consider closing their own accounts.

  11. WWS says:

heheh – I can’t stop laughing about that Huffington Post – AOL deal. congrats to Arianna, of course – boy, did she cash in! No wondering why she sold!

But there is a hilarious story on Business Insider with the details of “AOL’s Master Plan” – their general business plan and strategy for all their content providers. This thing is huge! there are lots of links to different parts of “the AOL way” here:

    highlights:

    * AOL tells its editors to decide what topics to cover based on four considerations: traffic potential, revenue potential, edit quality and turn-around time.

    * AOL asks its editors to decide whether to produce content based on “the profitability consideration.”

    * The documents reveal that AOL is, when the story calls for it, willing to boost traffic by 5 to 10% with search ads and other “paid media.”

    * AOL site leaders are expected to have eight ideas for packages that could generate at least $1 million in revenue on hand at all times.

    * In-house AOL staffers are expected to write five to 10 stories per day.

    * AOL knows its sites are too dependent on traffic from AOL.com, and it wants its editors to fix the problem by posting more frequently, with more emphasis on getting pageviews.

(in other words, post about Justin Bieber and the Kardashians as much as possible)

and what do some of AOL’s content providers (ie, writers) have to say about this new plan?

“AOL is the most f—–up, bull—t company on earth,” says one, who joined AOL in what he calls, “the worst career move I’ve ever made.”

    HA!!!

  12. lurker9876 says:

Wow! Arianna screwed her “free” bloggers while AOL is screwing its employees.

AOL is showing how desperate in staying alive in a very bad economy.

Sounds like Arianna is fooling AOL into thinking it can make money with Arianna.

It’s too bad that the AOL employees face the choice of bringing bacon home from an unhappy job or quit and hope to find a job in a really bad market.

  13. WWS says:

and the Dem “centrists” continue to fall…

Jim Webb announces today that he’s dropping out of the Virgina Senate race for 2012. This was a seat that Dems *have* to hold to keep hold of the Senate.

and another bites the dust, hey hey…

  14. lurker9876 says:

That’s because Webb just could not raise enough money.

George Allen still needs to be primaried.

Regardless, I think this seat will switch back to the GOP side.

Now we’re learning that Durbin is admitting that he and the Dems have absolutely NO idea how to “create jobs”.

    Good grief!

Remember how the Dems claimed to the media that the GOP had NO plans for the health care reform? Now they have no plans on how to create jobs. Otherwise, if Pelosi still had the house, they’ll have a plan…more stimulus!

  15. oneal lane says:

Republicans must take pains to remind the public that the lost purchasing power of their dollars is directly tied to The Obama administrations spending spree, and the Federal reserves policy of inflation to cover those debts.

“O-FLATION” should be pointed out every time a Republican speaks to the press or public. It should be added to the popular political public lexicon

  16. ivehadit says:

Excellent point, Oneal. Educating the public should be a republican’s prime strategy, imho.

  17. lurker9876 says:

But then Obama’s two agencies claim NO inflation and NO food inflation!

    GGGRRR!!!

  18. WWS says:

well, Lurker, what they say is that as long as you don’t eat and don’t use any energy and pay no attention to stock prices and ignore what’s happened to things like gold and silver, then there really is no inflation.

In other words, wages and home prices are still flat or falling, and as long as unemployment stays high, this will continue.

here’s a campaign slogan: Obama! Keeping you safe from the ravages of inflation by CONTINUING to destoy Jobs every day!!!

  19. WWS says:

oh yeah, another dem centrist bailing out of Congress in 2012: Joe Liebermann.

  20. lurker9876 says:

    Joe Liebermann? Wow!

I’d love to see Lindsay Graham and John McCain announce their retirements!

    Lugar, too!
