Ground Zero Mosque Project To Be Abandoned

Published by at 7:55 am under All General Discussions

Update: According to Powerline this may only be a rumor – too bad. – end update

I think there is now a chance to finally heal the wounds of 9/11. The backers of the mosque at Ground Zero heard the cries of anguish from this nation and took a step towards closing those wounds from that brutal day nearly 9 years ago. In the first major gesture from the Muslim community in many years, the backers have may have decided to abandon the location of their new mosque in Manhattan:

After weeks of heated debate over plans for an Islamic community center near Ground Zero – the site of the 9/11 attacks on New York – it seems Muslim leaders will soon back down, agreeing to move to a new site.

To me this is the first high profile gesture from American Muslims I can recall for a long time. Yes, there have been Muslim states supporting our war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, but there has been very few major concessions like this one from inside our country. It is an indication that Muslims recognize and understand the hurt and pain that still festers in the wounds of 9/11.

And at this point, many people who opposed the mosque will now feel more comfortable in returning the gesture in the future. This is how people come together. They respect even sometimes irrational but heart felt feelings and work around them.

Does everyone see what an incredible opportunity Obama has here?

All he has to do is to come out publicly against the location of the mosque and demand that it be moved. They relocate, issue is defused, his previous comments are forgiven since he would appear to have solved the problem and he would look like he considered both options before deciding. Where he had gotten only blame, he would suddenly get credit. You know that’s exactly what either Clinton would do here. Maybe he could even save the Senate for the Dems with this move.

The opportunity is just sitting out in the open on a silver platter – all he has to do is grasp it. Even his advisors know this. But I’m thinking that no matter how much it would help him, he just can’t bring himself to do it. Why? Elitism, pride, a reflexive anti-americanism that he just can’t hide anymore, take your pick – in the end, it doesn’t really matter.

Maybe this will be his political epitaph:

Barak Obama – He never Failed to Fail.

Obama and Bloomers must be crying in their beer, er, chardonay.

WWS, Obama’s epitaph will be “If I sucked, it was Bush’s fault.”

He could have worked behind the scene to move the location away from the World Trade Center before Ramadan, and then announce the location at the White House dinner. He would have received great applause, and his ego boost for the night. I think that is what Bush would have done, knowing up front that it’s location would cause a fire storm.

I remember that Obama went to the World Trade Center hole once as a nominee. So perhaps he had little understanding of the terrorist attack. Then again it could be that “the chickens came home to roost” and nobody could talk Obama out of his great constitutional lesson which are so irritating. We all aren’t in need of a 4th grade lecture on America, and why she is great.

For a “smart”guy he says the stupidest things, and it’s becoming a habit.
