Global Warming Incoherence

As I sit here awaiting the super bowl in 30 inches of snow (a record probably going back 90 years) with temperatures in the twenties outside balmy DC, I found two recent disclosures about the erroneous IPCC and its unsubstantiated, wild claims of the pending end of the Earth quite illustrative. The two errors are prime examples of the incoherent ramblings of the AGW conspiracists.

First is the ridiculous claim that the Earth boasts 1.3 billion agriculture workers who are now in dire straights thanks to man-made global warming:

In AR4, WGIII, section 8.4.5 Potential implications of mitigation options for sustainable development:

“Agriculture contributes 4% of global GDP (World Bank, 2003) and provides employment to 1.3 billion people (Dean, 2000).”

Seems a bit high to me – and why am I not surprised:

The UN IPS is the United Nations Inter Press Service. They cited a news article. This article was difficult to find, but I did get it.

Interestingly enough, the actual title of the article is different than the IPCC’s reference. The title is “Agriculture Workers Too Poor to Buy Food, Say Unions“.

Yep, its left wing propaganda being pushed as settled science. Anyway, all these poor aggie workers are starving due to global warming right? Maybe not:

Following an investigation by this blog (and with the story also told in The Sunday Times), another major “mistake” in the IPCC’s benchmark Fourth Assessment Report has emerged.

Similar in effect to the erroneous “2035” claim – the year the IPCC claimed that Himalayan glaciers were going to melt – in this instance we find that the IPCC has wrongly claimed that in some African countries, yields from rain-fed agriculture could be reduced by up to 50 percent by 2020.

At best, this is a wild exaggeration, unsupported by any scientific research, referenced only to a report produced by a Canadian advocacy group, written by an obscure Moroccan academic who specialises in carbon trading, citing references which do not support his claims.

In fact, the Saraha has been getting greener and greener thanks to increased rainfall – and the settled science has no clue as to why. What we do know is the greening is providing for more agriculture and more food.

As Mark Steyn notes the IPCC is proving to be good at one thing – wild exaggeration which flies in the face of hard facts. Deniers are now the the warming alarmists. The global warming alarmists have been exposed as completely incoherent.

So is it any wonder the number of people who think global warming is man-made is now down to a radical few 26%?

The researchers found that the current interglacial has indeed lasted some 2.0–2.5 millennia longer than predicted by the currently dominant theory for the way in which orbital changes control the ice-age cycles. This theory is based on the intensity of solar radiation reaching the Earth at latitude 65 degrees North on 21 June, the northern hemisphere Summer solstice.

But the anomaly vanished when the researchers considered a rival theory, which looks at the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth the same latitude during the summer months. Under this theory, sea levels could remain high for another two thousand years or so, even without greenhouse warming.

So the dominant theory regarding the current interglacial is that it is some 2.0–2.5 millennia longer than predicted. The next best says the next ice age starts in 2000 years.
So why is anybody worried about AGW ?

Here’s a funny story I saw today – just 15 months ago Robert Kennedy penned an op-ed saying that he KNEW global warming was real because it hardly ever snowed in D.C. anymore.

I agree with Hugh Hewitt – this could be a great opportunity to popularize Rep. Paul Ryan’s roadmap.
