If Palin Does Reasonably Well Thursday, America’s Backlash Against Liberals Will Be Severe

I have been waiting to post on the upcoming VP debate because I wanted to make sure the liberal politicians and news media grabbed so much rope to hang themselves there was no way for the to recover from the Palin Derangement Syndrome.  And we seem to have reached a point of insane, heated rhetoric that I feel it is time to note Palin has a very good chance of doing serious damage to both Obama and the angry media with their 3rd grade emotional mentality.

As some on the left have figured out way too late, the expectations for Palin are now so low that unless she totally loses it she will win. And I mean totally loses it. The problem for the liberal chattering class is Palin speaks a different language – she speaks Main Street USA. The babbling policy wonkers here in DC and up in NY City live in a very isolated bubble of fashionable words and statements and cadences. They detect ‘outsiders’ from the common folks by the way normal folks don’t speak the lingo of the Political Industrial Complex. It is a cliqueish way to determine who is “in” and “out” here in DC.

I know, I grew up in this town and have lots of politically powerful assocaites. I know how to speak the lingo here, but I can also go down to the local bar in West Virginia and chat it up over a brewsky. The powerful elite CANNOT do this. They can put on a facade for the TV and handle an inteview, but they cannot communicate on a visceral level with people who they have nothing in common with.

Palin can, and on Thursday she will be unflitered by the propoganda machine of the liberal left. Once she doesn’t babble or collapse in a faint, but actually talks about issues the way SHE does – it will shock America on how badly she has been treated by the left.

For example, the issue of Russia and Alaska, and Putin’s overflights. In the short time Palin has been Governor Putin has sent SIXTEEN provocitive flights of BOMBERS & FIGHTER JETS toward the US. For those Google challenged here is the record from March 2008:

Russia’s resurgent military is again making sporadic, unannounced bomber runs toward Alaska’s airspace, leading the Air Force to scramble jets to intercept and identify them, according to the commander of the Pacific Air Forces, Gen. Howie Chandler.

The most recent incident, involving two Russian Tu-95 Bear bombers, occurred Tuesday, Chandler said during a meeting with reporters at Elmendorf Air Force Base on Thursday. Since July, there have been 16 such incidents, according to the Air Force.

Ignorance of the liberal media and liberal politicians of these facts simply makes their mocking comments towards Palin all the more egregious. Here’s more reporting from October 2007:

Russian warplane exercises around Alaska have become routine in the past few months, U.S. military officials said Monday, as the former Cold War superpower steps up flights from its Arctic bases.

Over the summer, Russian bombers have staged at least seven exercises in a buffer zone outside U.S. air space, each time alerting the U.S. through reports by Russian news agencies, said Maj. Allen Herritage, a spokesman for the Alaska region of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

U.S. and Canadian fighter jets, usually F-15s, have been dispatched each time to escort the Russian planes in the exercises, which have ranged from two to six aircraft, Herritage said.

The latest exercise came Sept. 19 and involved two planes flying somewhere off the coast of Canada, Herritage said. They were met by Canadian planes from NORAD, which is jointly operated by the U.S. and Canadian militaries.

And if that doesn’t educate some folks, how about THIS story from April 2006:

Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.

The commander of the country’s long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.

“They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually,” he said.

If Palin simply does well, and explains to America that somehow the US news media just doesn’t know what is happening around the world outside their little cones of silence, she will shock the nation into realizing how truly pathetic the left are in this nation. It is one thing to have a difference of opinion, and even mildly bad to be wrong. But to outright lie to America is a crime Americans take very seriously – and they tend to dole out some serious punishment in return.

Our friends in the media also seem to have forgotten that little no fly zone over Iraq that was challenged continually by Saddam until we recognized it for what it was….an act of war.

    This debate no longer matters

AJ, I hope you’re right. Pray you’re right.

I’m worried both that Palin will be over-briefed (as she has been in a lot of the interviews), and that the economics will just swamp the entire ticket.

But this DOES matter. If the McCain-Palin ticket gets overwhelmed by economic issues, Sarah Palin is a potential candidate for 2012. A good debate performance can set her up nicely for the nomination…and I have no doubt that with four more years of seasoning, she can obliterate Obama.

The MSM has already written their stories about the debate on Thursday. They just need to fill in the blanks with their spin. Accordingly, Gov. Palin needs to do more than just hold her own, she needs to come out fighting and score a knock out. She needs to make the MSM rewrite their stories.

I want to see that pitbull with lipstick. Biden has a short fuse. I want her to get under Biden’s skin and watch him melt down. I want to see him so incensed that a few of those hair plugs pop out.

Say what you will about Bill Clinton, he does understand politics. Something he said years ago has always stuck in my mind. He said, “When people are insecure, they’d rather have somebody who is strong and wrong than someone who’s weak and right.”

And what exactly does being the governor of Alaska have to do with Russian overflights? It’s all handled by the military completely separate from state government. That excuse is almost as bad as her seeing Russia from her back yard.

it is the state of Alaska where the overflights are occurring and it’s military stationed in Alaska that are monitoring them.

Certainly she is not handling the military affairs surrounding these events, but with them occurring over her state, she is certainly involved with the local citizenrys concerns about them. At the very least, she’s involved with the politics of them because they concern most directly, her citizens, unlike the governors of other states.

  7. Mike M. says:

One DOES get briefed on it. Any border state governor routinely touches on foreign affairs to a degree…and Alaska borders on both Russia and Canada. It’s not much experience (if McCain loses and Palin plans a 2012 bid, she needs to get around more), but it’s something.

The Baraccuda has a mixed record since her nomination. She is awesome when talking to people at a local Philly Steak and Cheese restaurant. She is great at her campaign speeches. She gave an impressive interview with Charlie Gibson. However, her interview with Katie Couric was terrible. Unfortunately, I think this debate could make or break her.

  9. MerlinOS2 says:

In the Couric interview for some reason the McCain handlers had her wrapped so tight and on such a short leash (most likely due to the agressive edits of the Gibson interview) that she wasn’t Palin but a RoboBarbie stuck with talking points and severe warning not to wander a millimeter off the farm.

Now either the McCain camp chose wrong or they did it on purpose to rope a dope Biden and sandbag him for the coming debate.

Who is the Drive By Moderator for the VP debate?

  11. Terrye says:

I hope she does well just for her own sake. Whether they win or not.

I do think that the way the press has treated her is criminal. If they want to see a stupid female not fit to lead they need to be doing nasty little hit pieces on Pelosi.

  12. AJStrata says:

I think it is Gwen Ifill of PBS (who came up through local DC news stations).

The Economy is still going to be the Elephant in the room.

I’d love to see her take on the original causes of the crisis (the CRA and it’s strengthening…) —- and to take them directly down Biden’s throat. He’s been in the Senate all of this time. He has a record on it. She should be armed with the details.

Then again, I could be wrong. Depends how deeply embedded the current narrative of “it’s Republican Deregulation!!” is in the average voter’s psyche. *shrug*

Someone remarked earlier this week that you can’t win over voters when you’re trying to argue WITH them about something they think they know.
